Description
Summary:Optimization of Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) is aimed to find the best configuration that related to reliability and cost of system. It is proposed to minimize Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) and Cost of Energy (COE). In line with that, Genetic Algorithm is implemented as intelligent method for optimization process. In this paper, optimization of HRES is implemented for street light application. This is focused to combine optimization process in supply side of street light with consideration of load management in lighting side. Load management process adjusts the light intensity based on traffic flow condition. In this study, HRES street light uses photovoltaic (PV) as main supply, battery as storage supply and fuel cell (FC) as backup supply. In lighting side, Light Emitting Diode (LED) is used and dimmed with control. Simulation of system uses MATLAB with real weather data and real traffic flow condition. As a result, the load management reduces power consumption about 12.9% in one year simulation. Moreover, the optimal design of street light supply is obtained and analyzed for uncontrolled and controlled load.
