Description
Summary:This paper presents mathematical modeling, design and development of Wind Turbine Simulator (WTS) based on DC motor, suitable for analysis of the wind energy conversion system. The WTS is designed with the help of built-in blocks available in MATLAB/Simulink. Instead of the wind turbine rotor, a DC motor has been used as a source of torque generating which is driven by controlled DC voltage source. Specially designed PI controller is used which guarantees that the DC motor is following the theoretical (reference) rotational speed of the turbine rotor. The designed system offers wide range flexibility and provides a friendly environment in which wind speed and turbine parameters can be changed easily. This designed simulator will help researchers, engineers and designers to analyze the operation and understand the behavior of the wind energy conversion system. The system design, the model used, and obtained results are presented in this paper.
