Summary:Quranic Education is one of the core courses in the mainstream curriculum. Quranic education is also actively being taught in various places both formally and informally. However, there is a need of evaluating the approaches used by most of the teachers in order to enhance their effectiveness on students’ performance. This is because the continuity of the Quranic education closely depends on the Quranic teachers themselves. Therefore, this article discuss the characteristics of Quranic teacher according to the works of traditional and contemporary scholars. The findings suggest that the characteristics that have to be practiced possessed by teachers can be divided to two types, namely the development of teachers’ personality and their observation in study circles. It is to be hoped that this article will be a guide to building a generation of better Quranic teachers.
