Summary: | Self-regulation is a very important skill to help individuals face the challenges of life and succeed in life. This article discusses the role of parents in cultivating akhlaq self-regulating skills as an educational process in Islam. The discussion is not only done by emphasizing the rules of cultivating akhlaq self-regulation as suggested in the Islamic perspective, also the comparison with the Western perspectives. Through the discussion, it can be concluded that, there are four ways for parents to cultivate akhlaq self-regulation, which are; social interactions, parents as a model of good attitudes, encouraging the practice of good attitudes through positive and negative reinforcement, and making good behaviour as a habit through repetition. Discussions and conclusion made in this article should help parents and teachers in the process of cultivating self-regulation over future generations.
