description Adequately provided infrastructure was a prerequisite for the sustainability of local development. Due to the rising cost of infrastructure, there is a paradigm shift from the public to private sector provision of infrastructure. Since then, local authorities are increasingly finding themselves facing a shortage of fund to provide the necessary infrastructure. Therefore, based on a study, the authors attempt to identify ways to promote private sector, specifically the private property developers to do so. Consequently, the scenario has encouraged local authorities to work on the ways to involve private sector to provide adequate provision of local infrastructure. The paper concludes with a short summary of key issues in local infrastructure and proposes an improvement of the present practice of local infrastructure provision.
