description This case discusses the paradigm shift and digital wisdom (i.e. the ability to use digital technology to complement existing abilities and decision making) that were manifested during a content analysis workshop given by the authors in the Middle East in the spring of 2015. Most of the participants were familiar with quantitative research, so the purpose of the workshop was to familiarize them with qualitative epistemology and the interpretivist philosophical stance. The workshop also let participants experience a paradigm transformation from manual analysis to computer-assisted analysis, in this case using the ATLAS.ti software.Participants analysed a 3-page text by reading and highlighting quotations they deemed important.Participants were cautious about the naming of codes for the selected text and discussed in depth with fellow participants and facilitators how the codes should be named. When participants moved from manual analysis to using ATLAS.ti, we observed a swift transition to this software, as participants were able to code competently in ATLAS.ti after the process was explained to them.We are convinced that the transition was easy because of the digital wisdom participants had prior to the workshop or had gained during the workshop.
