Summary: | As social media become more popular among society members, issues related to social media also increases especially addiction. The objective of the study is to determine the relationship between social media addiction and academic performance based on personality characteristics: Neuroticism, Extroversion, Openness to experience,Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness.
The data was gathered from the distribution of questionnaire among students of the of Bachelor Information Technology and Bachelor of Science (Information Technology) programs. A total of 72 respondents had delivered their feedbacks for this study. The findings indicate that all the personality characteristics (Neuroticism, Extroversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness) have positive relationship with social media addiction. However, the addiction did not affect the academic performance since most of the respondents obtained the latest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) between 3.00 to 4.00.
