description | Higher education systems in Southeast Asia have seen significant changes in recent years. These changes are due to an increase in the demand for educational services as well as an increase in the number of students enrolled. Such advancements pose a significant threat to higher education's quality standards, and strong internal and external quality assurance (QA) procedures are required to build confidence and transparency among higher education stakeholders. This is true not only at the national level, but also throughout the ASEAN region. In light of ASEAN's integration process by 2015 and beyond, regional quality assurance plays a critical role in the harmonisation of higher education, particularly in terms of student performance and degrees comparability, and the encouragement of student and academic mobility between ASEAN countries. In this context, this IQA project not only builds national capacities in the field of quality assurance, but it also encourages regional interaction and networking among higher education institutions (HEIs) and other stakeholders. At the same time, the course provides a chance for exchange and debate between European and Southeast Asian partners as well as within the ASEAN area. This TrainIQA project is part of the DIES (Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies) programme, which seeks to improve the management structures of higher education in developing countries. DIES is jointly coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) and supported by funds of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). |
