| description | The purpose of this study was to determine the antecedents required for residents to support local cultural, art, and heritage festival development. This study was proposed to develop a model of residents’ support for the development of local cultural, art, and heritage festival. To answer the research objectives, this study has integrated Social Exchange Theory (SET), the Theory of Power, and the concept of trust in a single framework. Using a sample of residents in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used. Empirical results indicated that residents' support for local cultural, art, and heritage festivals was influenced by perceived benefits, perceived costs, trust in government, and religiosity. While the results support the SET, it has rejected the use of the Theory of Power in one single framework. Furthermore, trust in government was also found as another antecedent that influenced the formation of support towards local cultural, art, and heritage festival. The findings shed light on practical implications for festival planners and organizers as the study on residents’ support for local cultural, art, and heritage festival is still limited. This study provides meaningful evidence to aid a better understanding of the factors affecting residents’ support towards the development of local cultural, art, and heritage festival. In addition, it also helps to produce a final model of residents’ support for the development of local cultural, art, and heritage festival. |
