Summary: | This research attempts to explore the nature of current selection practices in Malaysia with particular reference to managerial jobs. The objectives of the study were to examine the level of personal knowledge of and the extend of the company usage of selection techniques. Furthermore, this study also looked at the effectiveness of selection
techniques in terms of how predictive of future job performance they are as perceived by human resource manager. The findings on selection revealed that the person responding scored higher on knowledge on the average that the company did on its usage. The results affirm the continuing popularity of the traditionally used selection techniques such as the application form, resume, interview
and reference checks. Seven of the selection techniques such as job knowledge tests, structured interview, preliminary interview, reference check, resume, medical examinations and performance appraisal were rated as above average in their ability to predict employees' job performance.
