Entanglement in smart hydrogels: fast response time, anti-freezing and anti-drying
Published 2023“…Different from the conventional methods which hinder the movement of the polymer network, through entanglement with HPC fibers, the composite hydrogel shows both improved Young's modulus and toughness and more importantly improved smart functionalities including response speed, anti-drying, and anti-freezing capabilities and cycle stability. …”

Thermal conductivity variations with composition of gelatin-silica aerogel-sodium dodecyl sulfate with functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube doping in their composites
Published 2015“…This paper discusses the variations in thermal conductivity of a binder-treated gelatin silica aerogel-sodium dodecyl sulfate (GSA-SDS) composite blocks doped with COOH group functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (FMWNT) prepared via freeze drying and frothing methods. The thermal conductivity of GSA-SDS and GSA-SDS/FMWNT composites was evaluated with several mass ratios of the composite mix for 1-D steady-state heat transfer at mean temperature, Tm (300-370K), using Lee’s Disc method. …”

Mussel-inspired approach to cross-linked functional 3D nanofibrous aerogels for energy-efficient filtration of ultrafine airborne particles
Published 2019“…Herein, inspired by mussel glue, cross-linked threedimensional (3D) polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibrous aerogels (NFAs) with ultrahigh porosity, hierarchical porous structures, and good compression resistance are successfully fabricated via electrospinning, facile polydopamine (PDA) coating and crosslinking by ferric ions (Fe3+) followed by freeze-drying. Morphology characterization andcompression tests showthatboth multiplehydrogen bondingfacilitated bythePDA coating and Fe3+-PDA coordination bonding could effectively induce the formation of inter-fiber junctions, enhancing compression resistanceofthe3DNFAsandleadingtohierarchical porousstructureswithaverywidePSD.When a thin layer of the optimized 3D NFA with a large specific surface area (85.7m2g−1) is combined with a commercial air filter, the composite filter obtained exhibits high filtration efficiencies of 99.72% and 99.85% for airborne particles with sizes of<100nm and<500nm, respectively, at a low pressure drop of only 54.1Pa. …”

Ultralight and Highly Elastic Graphene/Lignin-Derived Carbon Nanocomposite Aerogels with Ultrahigh Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Performance
Published 2018“…Ultralight and highly elastic reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/lignin-derived carbon (LDC) composite aerogels with aligned micron-sized pores and cell walls are prepared using a facile freeze-drying method. The presence of a small fraction of LDC in the cell walls enhances the interfacial polarization effect while almost maintaining the amount of charge carriers and conductivity of the cell walls, greatly boosting the wave absorption capability of the cell walls. …”
