Prediction of neutralising antibodies for novel coronavirus with machine learning
Published 2023“…However, the models were poor at correctly classifying the non-neutralising sequences and had false positive rates as high as 41%. Therefore, the exploration of other oversampling techniques in combination with undersampling techniques and the experimentation of different pooling approaches to capture atomic information more accurately could serve as new directions in future work.…”

Fluid velocity slip and temperature jump at a solid surface
Published 2015“…The net velocity and temperature of the near-wall molecules, equivalent to the slip velocity and temperature jump, can be evaluated by considering the relative rates of adsorption. Our first theoretical model focuses on the subject of fluid slip over solid surfaces, where the corresponding velocities of various adsorbed fluid molecules are analysed based on the dynamics of the adsorption processes. …”

Heat transfer of 3D-printed porous structure used in cold plate
Published 2016“…The results suggest that with the same LD to LL ratio, the porous-filled cold plate of 64.8% has consistently better thermal performances as compared to the other cold plates for the range of flow rates tested. In addition, the results also show that at the highest ReD, the best-performing cold plate has approximately 6 times higher Nu as compared to that of the bare cold plate. …”

Impact of the ballast water management convention on the maritime industry (technical impact)
Published 2019“…In lieu of the negative repercussions, this paper has also included recommendations such as setting up a structured testing system and a rating system for all the type-approved BWTS. Such recommendations seek to enhance the robustness of the type-approved BWTS and thereby, further the effectiveness of the BWM Convention.…”

Interannual coral Δ14C records of surface water exchange across the Luzon Strait
Published 2019“…While numericalmodels have investigated the interannual variability of the transport and subsequent water exchange acrossthe LS, a lack of long‐term on‐site records prevents a general consensus on the transport rates, variability, and drivers. Corals offer high‐resolution, continuous histories of radiocarbon (Δ14C) content of the seawaterdissolved inorganic carbon, allowing us to track changes in ocean transport and circulation through time.Seasonal and annualΔ14C samples from Houbihu, Taiwan, and Palaui, Philippines, located on either side ofthe strait, are compared to the Western Pacific Ocean and SCSΔ14C records to examine the spatial andtemporalΔ14C variability in the region. …”

How one might miss early warning signals of critical transitions in time series data: A systematic study of two major currency pairs
Published 2018“…In this paper, we investigated why this might be so, by testing three commonly used indicators: lag-1 autocorrelation, variance, and low-frequency power spectrum at anticipating critical transitions in the very-high-frequency time series data of the Australian Dollar-Japanese Yen and Swiss Franc-Japanese Yen exchange rates. Besides testing rising trends in these indicators at a strict level of confidence using the Kendall-tau test, we also required statistically significant early warning signals to be concurrent in the three indicators, which must rise to appreciable values. …”

Green development performance of water resources and its economic-related determinants
Published 2019“…The main findings of this study are as follows: i) the level of water utilization is a critical factor for the government to decide whether to increase the GTFPWR via foreign direct investment and trade; ii) the amount of wastewater should be effectively reduced to mitigate the conflicts between urbanization and the GTFPWR growth; iii) inland provinces, particularly Shanxi, Hainan and Yunnan, need to improve water technologies and management to increase their low-GTFPWR-growth rates. Our analytical framework is practical to evaluate water-use productivity and its determinants, while our empirical findings provide new insights into the green development of water resources and may shed light on future policies of environmental management.…”
