Electromagnetic wave/particle duality and its applications for Interstellar Propulsion Systems by Goh, Javier Zhin Hsien

    Published 2018
“…It will then compare the systems against a fixed criteria of mission profiles, which are deemed as likely mission profiles for future manned or unmanned exploration or colonisation missions, to the nearest neighbouring star system, the Alpha Centauri system. This study will then conclude with the most ideal propulsion systems for such future missions, as well as a direction towards further research.…”

Sailing towards the stars close to the speed of light by André Fűzfa, Williams Dhelonga-Biarufu, Olivier Welcomme

    Published 2020-11-01
“…First, any misalignment between the driving light beam and the direction of the sail's motion is naturally swept away during acceleration toward relativistic speed, yet leads to a deviation of about 80 A.U. in the case of an initial misalignment of 1 arc sec for a sail accelerated up to 0.2c toward Alpha Centauri. Then, the huge proper acceleration felt by the probes (of order 2500 g), the tremendous energy cost (of about 13 kt per probe) for poor efficiency (of about 3%), the trip duration (between 22 and 33 years), the temperature at thermodynamic equilibrium (about 1500K), and the time dilation aboard (about 160-days difference) are all presented and their variation with the sail's reflectivity is discussed. …”

Gaussian process tools for modelling stellar signals and studying exoplanets by Rajpaul, V

    Published 2017
“…In a first application of the framework, I demonstrate that Alpha Centauri Bb - until 2016, thought to be the closest exoplanet to Earth, and also the lowest minimum-mass exoplanet around a Sun-like star - was, in fact, an astrophysical false positive. …”
