Pre-existing structural control on the recent Holuhraun eruptions along the Bárðarbunga spreading center, Iceland
Published 2024-02-01“…Here, we present the results of a drone-towed magnetic scalar field and scalar gradiometry study of the north-northeast trending Bárðarbunga spreading center to the north of the Vatnajökull ice cap, Iceland. …”

Modelling volcanic source deformation using a particle filter-based inversion
Published 2019“…I trialled variants of the particle filter on synthetic data sets of differing complexities, and on real data from the 2014 dike propagation event at Bárðarbunga volcano which has good ground truth. The results show that a particle filter using a simulated annealing-based resampling with at least 750 particles was able to accurately model the evolution of a single volcanic source over time. …”

Composition, isotopic fingerprint and source attribution of nitrate deposition from rain and fog at a Sub-Arctic Mountain site in Central Sweden (Mt Åreskutan)
Published 2019-01-01“…Based on ion concentrations and the nitrate stable isotope signatures δ(15N) and δ(18O), it was possible to detect the plume generated by the Västmanland forest fire; NOx emissions from oil rigs and Kola Peninsula; and the plume of Bardarbunga volcano, Iceland. Scavenging of ions by fog was more efficient than by rain. …”

Global radiant flux from active volcanoes: the 2000–2019 MIROVA database
Published 2023-10-01“…Within the investigated period, the global-scale heat flux was almost stationary, and occasionally punctuated by peaks associated with the largest effusive eruptions (e.g., Bardarbunga and Kilauea). The Volcanic Radiative Energy (VRE, in J) emitted by basic volcanoes (∼1.8 × 1018 J) in 20 years constitutes 91% of the total, while intermediates and acids contribute only 8% (∼1.8 × 1017 J) and 1% (∼1.7 × 1016 J), respectively. …”

Applications of ArcticDEM for measuring volcanic dynamics, landslides, retrogressive thaw slumps, snowdrifts, and vegetation heights
Published 2024-06-01“…Following the 2014–2015 Bárðarbunga eruption in Iceland, ArcticDEM analysis mapped the lava flow field, and revealed the post-eruptive ice flows and ice cauldron dynamics. …”

An experimental approach to dike propagation : the effects of stress, solidification and internal flow
Published 2019“…Most basaltic eruptions (e.g. the large 2018 eruption at Kilauea, Hawai’i and the 2014 eruption of Bardarbunga, Iceland) are fed by dikes. Recharge events, which supplies fresh magma from depth to shallow magma reservoirs and are associated to eruptions (e.g. the 1991 eruption of Pinatubo, Philippines), are commonly considered to be fed by propagating dikes. …”
