Modern air-sea flux distributions reduce uncertainty in the future ocean carbon sink by Galen A McKinley, Val Bennington, Malte Meinshausen, Zebedee Nicholls

Published 2023-01-01
“…We conclude that a significant portion of future ocean carbon sink uncertainty is attributable to modern-day errors in the mean state of air-sea CO _2 fluxes, which in turn are associated with model representations of ocean physics and biogeochemistry. Bringing models into agreement with modern observation-based estimates at regional to global scales can substantially reduce uncertainty in future role of the ocean in absorbing anthropogenic CO _2 from the atmosphere and mitigating climate change.…”

Ideas and perspectives: The fluctuating nature of oxygen shapes the ecology of aquatic habitats and their biogeochemical cycles – the aquatic oxyscape by M. Fusi, S. Rigaud, G. Guadagnini, A. Barausse, R. Marasco, D. Daffonchio, J. Régis, L. Huchet, C. Camin, L. Pettit, C. Vina-Herbon, F. Giomi

Published 2023-08-01
“…In this paper, we provide compelling evidence based on current research that the fluctuating oxygen landscape, here defined as “oxyscape”, has an important role in aquatic animal physiology and adaptation as well as the ecosystem biogeochemistry. We propose that the oxyscape should be considered in the modelling and managing policies of aquatic ecosystems.…”

A Review of Ocean Color Algorithms to Detect Trichodesmium Oceanic Blooms and Quantify Chlorophyll Concentration in Shallow Coral Lagoons of South Pacific Archipelagos by Cécile Dupouy, Andra Whiteside, Jing Tan, Guillaume Wattelez, Hiroshi Murakami, Rémi Andréoli, Jérôme Lefèvre, Rüdiger Röttgers, Awnesh Singh, Robert Frouin

Published 2023-10-01
“…The interest of such algorithms for a variety of applications and scientific accomplishments is highlighted, with a view to further addressing the main biology and biogeochemistry questions, e.g., to determine the true impact of diazotrophs and assess lagoon [Chl-a] variability with the highest confidence. …”

Numerical modeling of coupled hydrodynamic-chemical-biodegradation processes in coal mine water quality formation and evolution by Yajun SUN, Xiaofeng XIONG, Ge CHEN, Zhimin XU, Li ZHANG, Xianming ZHAO, Rudakov DMYTRO

Published 2024-03-01
“…The hydrogeological prototype of a goaf in a coal mine in the Ordos Basin is choosen, and a laboratorial physical model and a coupled hydrodynamic-chemical-biodegradation (HCB) milti-field numerical model for the goaf are established, focusing the water level rises and biogeochemistry processes. The research results demonstrate the significance of multi-field coupling effects on mine water quality. …”

Where the past meets the present: connecting nitrogen from watersheds to streams through groundwater flowpaths by Eric M Moore, Janet R Barclay, Adam B Haynes, Kevin E Jackson, Alaina M Bisson, Martin A Briggs, Ashley M Helton

Published 2023-01-01
“…Our research objectives were to quantify the spatial distribution of N concentrations at groundwater discharges throughout a mixed land-use watershed and to evaluate how relationships among contributing and riparian land cover, modeled aquifer characteristics, and groundwater discharge biogeochemistry explain the spatial variation in groundwater discharge N concentrations. …”
