Visual over auditory superiority in sensorimotor timing under optimized condition by Liying Zhan, Yingyu Huang, Zhihan Guo, Junkai Yang, Li Gu, Shengqi Zhong, Xiang Wu

    Published 2022-11-01
“…To test for a possible visual superiority in temporal processing, here, we present a data set composed of a large 60 subjects sample and a data set including eight smaller samples of approximately 15 subjects, showing that synchronization to a temporally regular sequence was more stable for a visual bouncing ball (VB) than for auditory tones (ATs). The results demonstrate that vision can be superior over audition in sensorimotor timing under optimized conditions, challenging the generally believed auditory superiority in temporal processing. …”

Spectral Analysis of the Infinite-Dimensional Sonic Drillstring Dynamics by Kaïs Ammari, Lotfi Beji

    Published 2023-05-01
“…By deploying sonic drilling for soil structure fracturing in the presence of consolidated/ unconsolidated formations, this technique greatly reduces the friction on the drillstring and bit by using energetic resonance, a bit-bouncing high-frequency axial vibration. While resonance must be avoided, to our knowledge, drilling is the only application area where resonance is necessary to break up the rocks. …”
