Rapid neuroplasticity changes and response to intravenous ketamine: a randomized controlled trial in treatment-resistant depression by Jared Kopelman, Timothy A. Keller, Benjamin Panny, Angela Griffo, Michelle Degutis, Crystal Spotts, Nicolas Cruz, Elizabeth Bell, Kevin Do-Nguyen, Meredith L. Wallace, Sanjay J. Mathew, Robert H. Howland, Rebecca B. Price

    Published 2023-05-01
“…Abstract Intravenous ketamine is posited to rapidly reverse depression by rapidly enhancing neuroplasticity. In human patients, we quantified gray matter microstructural changes on a rapid (24-h) timescale within key regions where neuroplasticity enhancements post-ketamine have been implicated in animal models. …”

    Published 2023-02-01
“…BackgroundPain plays an important role in chronic ankle instability (CAI), and prolonged pain may be associated with ankle dysfunction and abnormal neuroplasticity.PurposeTo investigate the differences in resting-state functional connectivity among the pain-related brain regions and the ankle motor-related brain regions between healthy controls and patients with CAI, and explore the relationship between patients' motor function and pain.Study designA cross-database, cross-sectional study.MethodsThis study included a UK Biobank dataset of 28 patients with ankle pain and 109 healthy controls and a validation dataset of 15 patients with CAI and 15 healthy controls. …”

Single Exposure to the Cathinones MDPV and α-PVP Alters Molecular Markers of Neuroplasticity in the Adult Mouse Brain by Lucia Caffino, Francesca Mottarlini, Sabrine Bilel, Giorgia Targa, Micaela Tirri, Coralie Maggi, Matteo Marti, Fabio Fumagalli

    Published 2021-07-01
“…While the cathinone-induced behavioral profile has been extensively investigated, information on their neuroplastic effects is still rather fragmentary. Accordingly, we have exposed male mice to a single injection of MDPV and α-PVP and sacrificed the animals at different time points (i.e., 30 min, 2 h, and 24 h) to have a rapid readout of the effect of these psychostimulants on neuroplasticity in the frontal lobe and hippocampus, two reward-related brain regions. …”

The effects of long-term lactate and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on brain neuroplasticity of aged mice by Zhou Lei, Soroosh Mozaffaritabar, Takuji Kawamura, Atsuko Koike, Attila Kolonics, Johanna Kéringer, Ricardo A. Pinho, Jingquan Sun, Ruonan Shangguan, Zsolt Radák

    Published 2024-01-01
“…Subsequently, in the 2nd experiment, we investigated the long-term effects of 500 mg/kg lactate intervention and HIIT on brain neuroplasticity in aged mice (25–27 months). The results of the 1st experiment demonstrated that both HIIT and different doses of lactate intervention (500 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg) positively impacted the neuroplasticity biomarker VEGF in the hippocampus of aging mice. …”

Crebinostat: A novel cognitive enhancer that inhibits histone deacetylase activity and modulates chromatin-mediated neuroplasticity by Fass, Daniel M., Reis, Surya A., Ghosh, Balaram, Hennig, Krista M., Joseph, Nadine F., Zhao, Wen-Ning, Nieland, Thomas J.F., Guan, Ji-Song, Groves Kuhnle, Chelsea E., Tang, Weiping, Barker, Douglas D., Mazitschek, Ralph, Schreiber, Stuart L., Tsai, Li-Huei, Haggarty, Stephen J.

    Published 2016
“…As a consequence, pharmacological enhancement of the transcriptional processes mediating long-term memory formation provides a potential therapeutic strategy for cognitive disorders involving aberrant neuroplasticity. Here we focus on the identification and characterization of small molecule inhibitors of histone deacetylases (HDACs) as enhancers of CREB (cAMP response element-binding protein)-regulated transcription and modulators of chromatin-mediated neuroplasticity. …”

    Published 2021-10-01
“…The results show that the oxidized form of cfDNA positively regulates early gene expression of neurogenesis and neuroplasticity. At the same time, the question of whether chronic elevation of cfDNA concentration alters brain cells remains unexplored.…”

Effects of bright light therapy on neuroinflammatory and neuroplasticity markers in a diurnal rodent model of Seasonal Affective Disorder by Allison Costello, Katrina Linning-Duffy, Carleigh Vandenbrook, Joseph S. Lonstein, Lily Yan

    Published 2023-12-01
“…Following 4 weeks of treatment, the expression of several neuroinflammatory or plasticity markers was examined in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), basolateral amygdala (BLA), and the CA1 of the dorsal hippocampus. Results For the neuroinflammatory markers, BLT reduced TNF-α in the BLA of females, and upregulated CD11b in the mPFC and IL6 in the BLA in males. For the neuroplasticity markers, BLT downregulated BDNF in the CA1 and TrkB in all three brain regions in females but upregulated BDNF in the BLA and CA1 in males. Conclusions These results indicate that the therapeutic effects of BLT on sleep, mood, and cognition may be attributed in part to mechanisms involving neuroinflammation and neuroplasticity in corticolimbic brain regions. …”
