Characteristics of Lignin-derived Phenolic Compounds in Arid Lake, Northeastern China and Climatic Implications by SHANG Wenyu, SUN Qing, XIE Manman, ZHAN Nan

    Published 2023-03-01
“…The mean value of p-PHs/p-LGs for Yiheshariwusu Lake sediments was 16.41 (n=31, range of 4.36-37.31), showing an overall increasing trend since 6.7ka, reflecting a gradual increase in microbial activities. p-PHs/p-LGs showed a consistent trend and negative correlation with δ13C27-33 (n=31, R=-0.77, p < 0.01), meanwhile, variation of p-PHs/p-LGs positively correlated with the trend of increasing pollen of Chenopodiaceae and Poaceae in Hulun Lake sediment (n=31, R=0.54, p < 0.01), and on a larger scale, p-PHs/p-LGs are consistent and positively correlated with the gradual increase in the standardized precipitation index since 6.7ka in the northern hemisphere mid-latitudes (n=31, R=0.62, p < 0.01) (Fig.E.1C). …”

Mechanisms of hydrological responses to volcanic eruptions in the Asian monsoon and westerlies-dominated subregions by Z. Zhuo, Z. Zhuo, I. Kirchner, U. Cubasch

    Published 2023-04-01
“…Here, we use six ensemble members from the last-millennium experiment of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 to investigate the mechanisms of regional hydrological responses to different hemispheric VAIs in the Asian monsoon region (AMR). Northern hemispheric VAI (NHVAI) leads to an intensified aridity over the AMR after northern hemispheric VAI (NHVAI); spatially, a distinct inverse response pattern to the climatological conditions emerges, with an intensified aridity in the relatively wettest area (RWA) but a weakened aridity in the relatively driest area (RDA) of the AMR. …”

Circannual seizure provocation as the day lengthens in the northern and southern hemispheres by Marcus C. Ng, Tony Zhang, Darion Toutant, Milena K. Pavlova, Peter Bergin, Mark Quigg

    Published 2023-11-01
“…Abstract Circannual status epilepticus (SE) patterns in communities near Earth's poles best test the hypothesis that SE susceptibility varies with light exposure because these communities are routinely subject to large changes in annual light exposure, which may result in changes to daily sleep time. We compared northern hemispheric circannual SE occurrence in Kivalliq, Canada (latitude‐62.8° N) to southern hemispheric Auckland, New Zealand (latitude‐36.9° S). …”
