REACTIVATION OF AN OCEANIC FRACTURE BY THE MACQUARIE RIDGE EARTHQUAKE OF 1989
Published 1992“…Here I report an example of this phenomenon in which the fault that is reactivated is a nearly 175-km-long segment of an oceanic fracture, and its length is comparable to that of the main shock, the 1989 macquarie Ridge earthquake.…”

The link between great earthquakes and the subduction of oceanic fracture zones
Published 2012-12-01“…We construct a model for the geometry of subduction coupling zones and combine it with global geophysical data sets to demonstrate that the occurrence of great (magnitude ≥ 8) subduction earthquakes is strongly biased towards regions associated with intersections of oceanic fracture zones and subduction zones. We use a computational recommendation technology, a type of information filtering system technique widely used in searching, sorting, classifying, and filtering very large, statistically skewed data sets on the Internet, to demonstrate a robust association and rule out a random effect. …”

Seismogenic Fault Reactivation in Western Central Africa: Insights From Regional Stress Analysis
Published 2022-11-01“…We show that regional stresses acting on offshore oceanic fracture zones are compatible with those acting along the onshore areas of the continental margin. …”

Transform faults and large horizontal displacements of the ocean floor
Published 1968-06-01“…<br />Available fault-plane solutions indicate that the direction of motion along<br />some oceanic fracture zones is opposite to that which would be expected<br />in case of transcurrent faults. …”

THE MACQUARIE RIDGE EARTHQUAKE OF 1989
Published 1993“…Based on available bathymetry, gravity and magnetic anomaly data from the region, this reactivated feature is interpreted as being an old oceanic fracture zone and hence a pre-existing zone of weakness. …”

On the Origin of Orphan Tremors and Intraplate Seismicity in Western Africa
Published 2021-09-01“…Next, we consider the possibility of a local amplification of earthquakes from regional tectonics, reactivation of local basement fractures by far-field tectonic stresses, post-rift crustal relaxation, landward continuation of oceanic fracture zones, or induced earthquakes triggered by groundwater extraction. …”

Rapid, semi-automatic fracture and contact mapping for point clouds, images and geophysical data
Published 2017-12-01“…<br><br> We demonstrate the algorithm with four diverse applications in which we extract (1) joint and contact patterns in high-resolution orthophotographs, (2) fracture patterns in a dense 3-D point cloud, (3) earthquake surface ruptures of the Greendale Fault associated with the <i>M</i>w7.1 Darfield earthquake (New Zealand) from high-resolution light detection and ranging (lidar) data, and (4) oceanic fracture zones from bathymetric data of the North Atlantic. …”
