Winter connectivity and leapfrog migration in a migratory passerine by Rafael Rueda‐Hernández, Christen M. Bossu, Thomas B. Smith, Andrea Contina, Ricardo Canales del Castillo, Kristen Ruegg, Blanca E. Hernández‐Baños

    Published 2023-02-01
“…While Louisiana birds overlapped with Central birds on their spring migratory routes along the Gulf Coast, we found that Louisiana birds had a more restricted wintering distribution in the Yucatan Peninsula and Central America. Further estimation of the straight‐line distance from the predicted breeding location to the wintering location revealed that individuals sampled at lower winter latitudes traveled to greater distances (i.e., the predicted breeding area was further north; p > .001), confirming that these species exhibit a leapfrog migration pattern. …”

Evaluation of transcutaneous near-infrared spectroscopy for early detection of cardiac arrest in an animal model by Katharina Raschdorf, Arman Mohseni, Kaavya Hogle, Amanda Cheung, Kitty So, Neda Manouchehri, Mahsa Khalili, Saud Lingawi, Brian Grunau, Calvin Kuo, Jim Christenson, Babak Shadgan

    Published 2023-03-01
“…We investigated transcutaneous NIRS as a method to detect pentobarbital-induced changes during cardiac arrest in eight Yucatan miniature pigs. NIRS measurements during cardiac arrest were compared to invasively acquired carotid blood pressure and partial oxygen pressure (PO2) of spinal cord tissues. …”

    Run-up parameterization and beach vulnerability assessment on a barrier island: a downscaling approach by G. Medellín, J. A. Brinkkemper, A. Torres-Freyermuth, C. M. Appendini, E. T. Mendoza, P. Salles

    Published 2016-01-01
“…We present a downscaling approach for the study of wave-induced extreme water levels at a location on a barrier island in Yucatán (Mexico). Wave information from a 30-year wave hindcast is validated with in situ measurements at 8 m water depth. …”

Forecasting the effectiveness of indoor residual spraying for reducing dengue burden. by Thomas J Hladish, Carl A B Pearson, Diana Patricia Rojas, Hector Gomez-Dantes, M Elizabeth Halloran, Gonzalo M Vazquez-Prokopec, Ira M Longini

    Published 2018-06-01
“…CONCLUSIONS:Using a detailed agent-based dengue transmission model for Yucatán State, Mexico, we predict that high coverage indoor residual spraying (IRS) interventions can largely eliminate transmission for a few years, when applied a few months before the typical seasonal epidemic peak. …”

Barriers to promoting breastfeeding in primary health care in Mexico: a qualitative perspective by Elizabeth Hoyos-Loya, Cecilia Pérez Navarro, Cecilia Pérez Navarro, Soraya Burrola-Méndez, Soraya Burrola-Méndez, Sonia Hernández-Cordero, Sonia Hernández-Cordero, Isabel Omaña-Guzmán, Isabel Omaña-Guzmán, Matthias Sachse Aguilera, Mónica Ancira-Moreno, Mónica Ancira-Moreno

    Published 2024-01-01
“…ObjectiveThis article aimed to identify the main barriers related to promoting and counseling breastfeeding (BF) at the Primary Health Care (PHC) in Mexico.MethodologyA qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was carried out in 88 health centers of the Ministry of Health in the states of Chihuahua, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Mexico, and Yucatan. From September to November 2021, we interviewed 88 key health professionals (HPs) (physicians, nurses, nutritionists, and others) from the PHC and 80 parents of children under 5 years old. …”

Sex differences in the outcomes of stent implantation in mini-swine model by Wong, Gee, Markham, Peter M., Kunio, Mie, Edelman, Elazer R

    Published 2018
“…We aimed to understand sex-related differences in the vascular responses to stent implantation by analyzing the pooled data of endovascular interventions in 164 Yucatan mini-swine (87 female, 77 male). Bare metal stents (BMS) or drug-eluting stents (DES) were implanted in 212 coronary arteries (63 single BMS implantation, 68 single DES implantation, 33 overlapped BMS implantation, and 48 overlapped DES implantation). …”

    Published 2010
“…A miniaturized, hermetically-encased, wirelessly-operated retinal prosthesis has been developed for implantation and pre-clinical studies in Yucatan mini-pig animal models. The prosthesis conforms to the eye and drives a microfabricated polyimide stimulating electrode array with sputtered iridium oxide electrodes. …”
