Ephemeral antibubbles: Spatiotemporal evolution from direct numerical simulations by Nairita Pal, Rashmi Ramadugu, Prasad Perlekar, Rahul Pandit

    Published 2022-11-01
“…Our DNSs capture elegantly the gravity-induced thinning and breakup of an antibubble via the time evolution of the Cahn-Hilliard scalar-order-parameter field ϕ, which varies continuously across interfaces, so we do not have to enforce complicated boundary conditions at the moving antibubble interfaces. …”

Plate‐Scale Imaging of Eastern US Reveals Ancient and Ongoing Continental Deformation by Brennan Brunsvik, Zachary Eilon, Colton Lynner

    Published 2024-06-01
“…Abstract Eastern North America was constructed over several Wilson cycles, culminating in the breakup of Pangea. Previous seismological imaging lacked the resolution to depict precisely how ancient tectonic boundaries manifest throughout the lithosphere, how continental breakup modified the plate, or how ongoing mantle dynamics shapes the continental margin. …”

Simulation Study of the Swirl Spray Atomization of a Bipropellant Thruster under Low Temperature Conditions by Haifu Li, Jihong Feng, Xinyue Cao, Zhen Zhang, Hongbo Liang, Yusong Yu

    Published 2022-11-01
“…The development of spray atomization at low temperatures was observed through parametric comparisons, such as spray velocity, liquid total surface area, droplet particle size distribution, spray cone angle and breakup distance. When the temperature decreased from 20 °C to −40 °C at the same condition of flowrate inlet, those atomization characteristics of MMH propellant vary following these rules: the spray ejection velocity of MMH is significantly reduced by 7.7%, and gas-liquid disturbance sequentially decreases; the liquid film development is more stable, with a negative influence on atomization quality, causing difficulties for primary and secondary breakup, so the total surface area of droplets also decreases by 6.4%; the spatial distribution characteristics, spray cone angle and breakup distance vary less than 5%. …”
