Case of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis Associated with Cytomegalovirus Reactivation in an Immunocompromised Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patient
Published 2021-08-01“…We present a case of an immunocompromised systemic lupus erythematosus female patient admitted to our hospital for general impairment, monoparesis, and temporary cognitive disability. The case represented a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge primarily because of a wide range of differential diagnosis options (CNS lupus, ischemic cerebrovascular disease, viral meningoencephalitis, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, limbic encephalitis, and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis—ADEM). …”

Digital technologies for promoting the inclusion of workers with disabilities: A brief investigation
Published 2023-01-01“…This paper investigates the role and function of digital technologies within firms, widely believed to make them much more sustainable and promote the social inclusion of people with disability (PWD) at the workplace, especially those with cognitive disability or autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the last thirty years, and more recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic, technological change related to digital transformation, hence the adoption and diffusion of digital technologies, has impacted every field and sector in private and professional life, both positively and negatively. …”

Alteration of brain nuclei in obese children with and without Prader-Willi syndrome
Published 2022-11-01“…Twelve age- and sex-matched children with PWS, 18 obese children without PWS (OB) and 18 healthy controls participated in this study. Results: Compared with control and OB individuals, the PWS group exhibited significant atrophy in the bilateral thalamus, pallidum, hippocampus, amygdala, nucleus accumbens, right caudate, bilateral hypothalamus (left anterior-inferior, bilateral posterior, and bilateral tubular inferior subunits) and bilateral DCN (dentate, interposed, and fastigial nuclei), whereas no significant difference was found between the OB and control groups.Discussion: Based on our evidence, we suggested that alterations in brain nuclei influenced by imprinted genes were associated with clinical manifestations of PWS, such as eating disorders, cognitive disability and endocrine abnormalities, which were distinct from the neural mechanisms of obese children.…”

Regulatory functions and pathological relevance of the MECP2 3′UTR in the central nervous system
Published 2015-01-01“…Loss-of-function mutations in MECP2 cause Rett syndrome (RTT), a debilitating neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a phase of normal development, followed by the progressive loss of milestones and cognitive disability. While a great deal has been discovered about the structure, function, and regulation of MeCP2 in the time since its discovery as the genetic cause of RTT, including its involvement in a number of RTT-related syndromes that have come to be known as MeCP2-spectrum disorders, much about this multifunctional protein remains enigmatic. …”

Remyelination alters the pattern of myelin in the cerebral cortex
Published 2020-05-01“…Destruction of oligodendrocytes and myelin sheaths in cortical gray matter profoundly alters neural activity and is associated with cognitive disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). Myelin can be restored by regenerating oligodendrocytes from resident progenitors; however, it is not known whether regeneration restores the complex myelination patterns in cortical circuits. …”
