The effects of language power and communication mode on investor judgments
Published 2016“…In this study, I examined how, in the context of the question and answer (Q&A) segment of earnings calls, language power contained in a manager’s speech (powerful or powerless) interacts with the mode by which the manager’s speech is communicated to investors (audio recording or written transcript) to influence investor judgments of the attractiveness of a target company as an investment opportunity (i.e. persuasion). I used a controlled experiment to provide insights into this research question. …”

A novel phase-aligned analysis on motion patterns of table tennis strokes
Published 2019“…Therefore, this study proposes a novel velocity-based piecewise alignment method to identify the different phases of a table tennis forehand stroke. A controlled experiment was conducted on a number of players of two differing ability levels (experts vs. novices) to implement this novel methodology. …”

Physiological measures regress onto acoustic and perceptual features of soundscapes
Published 2013“…It is known that health is influenced by the sonic environment, and the study here presented aimed to investigate the nature and strength of relationships between soundscape features and physiological responses linked to relaxation or stress. In a controlled experiment, seventeen healthy volun-teers moved freely inside a physical installation listening to soundscape recordings of nature, urban parks, eateries, and shops, reproduced using 3D ambisonic techniques. …”

Effect of Source Mispositioning on the Repeatability of 4D Vertical Seismic Profiling Acquired with Distributed Acoustic Sensors
Published 2022-12-01“…To avoid these limitations, we conducted a same-day controlled experiment at the Curtin University site. This second experiment showed that the effect of source mispositioning on repeatability is controlled by the degree of lateral variations of the near-surface conditions. …”

Polarized QED cascades
Published 2021-01-01“…For photon-seeded cascades, depending on the photon polarization, we find an excess or a shortage of particle production in the early stages of cascade development, which provides a path towards a controlled experiment. Throughout this paper we focus on rotating electric field configuration, which represent an idealized model and allows for a straightforward interpretation of the observed effects.…”
