A JVLA 10~degree^2 deep survey
Published 2014“…(Abridged)One of the fundamental challenges for astrophysics in the 21st century is finding a way to untangle the physical processes that govern galaxy formation and evolution. Given the importance and scope of this problem, the multi-wavelength astronomical community has used the past decade to build up a wealth of information over specific extragalactic deep fields to address key questions in galaxy formation and evolution. …”

Semi-analytic models and background hydrogen-ionizing flux
Published 1999“…We estimate the contribution of galaxies to the cosmic background flux at 912 Angstrom by means of an extended semi-analytic model of galaxy formation and evolution which takes into account the absorption of Lyman-limit photons by HI and dust in the interstellar medium (ISM) of the galaxies. …”

Modelling high-z galaxies from the far-UV to the far-IR
Published 1998“… In this paper, we report on a first estimate of the contribution of galaxies to the diffuse extragalactic background from the far-UV to the submm, based on semi--analytic models of galaxy formation and evolution. We conclude that the global multi--wavelength picture seems to be consistent provided a quite important fraction of star--formation be hidden in dust--enshrouded systems at intermediate and high--redshift. …”

The chemical evolution of the Galactic Bulge seen through micro-lensing events
Published 2012-02-01“…Galactic bulges are central to understanding galaxy formation and evolution. Here we report on recent studies using micro-lensing events to obtain spectra of high resolution and moderately high signal-to-noise ratios of dwarf stars in the Galactic bulge. …”

TwO Parameters Semi Empirical Model (TOPSEM): Galaxy Evolution and Bulge/Disk Dicothomy from Two-stage Halo Accretion
Published 2023-01-01“…In recent years, increasing attention has been devoted to semi-empirical, data-driven models to tackle some aspects of the complex and still largely debated topic of galaxy formation and evolution. We here present a new semi-empirical model whose marking feature is simplicity: it relies on solely two assumptions, one initial condition and two free parameters. …”

Morphology in the Era of Large Surveys
Published 2013“…These large collaborative efforts have made available high-quality imaging and spectroscopy of hundreds of thousands of systems, providing a body of observations which has significantly enhanced our understanding not only of cosmology and large-scale structure in the universe but also of the astrophysics of galaxy formation and evolution. Throughout these changes, one thing that has remained constant is the role of galaxy morphology as a clue to understanding galaxies. …”

Solar and stellar photospheric abundances
Published 2016-07-01“…In parallel, developments on instrumentation, chiefly regarding multi-object spectroscopy, have been spectacular, and a number of projects are collecting large numbers of observations for stars across the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, promising important advances in our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution. After providing a brief description of the basic physics and input data involved in the analysis of stellar spectra, a review is made of the analysis steps, and the available tools to cope with large observational efforts. …”

A Review of the Theory of Galactic Winds Driven by Stellar Feedback
Published 2018-11-01“…Galactic winds from star-forming galaxies are crucial to the process of galaxy formation and evolution, regulating star formation, shaping the stellar mass function and the mass-metallicity relation, and enriching the intergalactic medium with metals. …”

Constraining Star-Formation Driven Outflows in Local Dwarf Galaxies with <i>Herschel</i><xref rid="fn1-psf-2287691" ref-type="fn">†</xref>
Published 2023-02-01“…Galactic feedback (i.e., outflows) plays a fundamental role in regulating galaxy formation and evolution. We investigate the physical properties of galactic outflows in a sample of 29 local low-metallicity dwarf galaxies drawn from the Dwarf Galaxy Survey. …”

Dwarf Cosmology with the Stromlo Missing Satellites Survey
Published 2010-01-01“…The primary objective of the program is to characterise the baryonic and dark matter components of a complete sample of MW satellites in the Southern hemisphere to provide stringent observational constraints for improving our understanding of how the Milky Way formed and what physical processes governed galaxy formation and evolution in general.…”

Galaxy Modelling - II. Multi-Wavelength Faint Counts from a Semi-Analytic Model of Galaxy Formation
Published 2000“…The STARDUST spectral energy distributions described in Devriendt et al. (1999) are embedded within the explicit cosmological framework of a simple semi-analytic model of galaxy formation and evolution. We build a class of models which capture the luminosity budget of the universe through faint galaxy counts and redshift distributions in the whole wavelength range spanned by our spectra. …”
