Fundamental Limits to Near-Field Optical Response over Any Bandwidth
Publicado 2019“…These limits demonstrate the possibility of orders-of-magnitude enhancement in near-field optical response with the right combination of material and geometry. At specific frequency and bandwidth combinations, the bounds can be closely approached by canonical plasmonic geometries, with the opportunity for new designs to emerge away from those frequency ranges. …”

Intrinsic Timing Jitter and Latency in Superconducting Nanowire Single-photon Detectors
Publicado 2019“…We develop both a simple phenomenological model and a more general microscopic model of detector latency and timing jitter based on the solution of the generalized time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations for the 1D hotbelt geometry. While the analytical model is sufficient for qualitative interpretation of recent data, the general approach establishes the framework for a more quantitative analysis of detector latency and the fundamental limits of intrinsic timing jitter. …”

Moment-Sum-of-Squares Approach for Fast Risk Estimation in Uncertain Environments
Publicado 2020“…We demonstrate the performance of the provided approach by solving probabilistic collision checking problems where we aim to find the probability of collision of a robot with a non-convex obstacle in the presence of probabilistic uncertainties in the location of the robot and size, location, and geometry of the obstacle. Keywords: Probability distribution; Uncertainty; Chebyshev approximation; Optimization; Probabilistic logic; Estimation; Robots; collision avoidance; least squares approximations; mobile robots; optimisation; polynomials; set theory; statistical distributions…”

Automated sequence design of 2D wireframe DNA origami with honeycomb edges
Publicado 2020“…Wireframe DNA origami has emerged as a powerful approach to fabricating nearly arbitrary 2D and 3D geometries at the nanometer-scale. Complex scaffold and staple routing needed to design wireframe DNA origami objects, however, render fully automated, geometry-based sequence design approaches essential for their synthesis. …”

Dynamics of an Abyssal Circulation Driven by Bottom-Intensified Mixing on Slopes
Publicado 2020“…Here the consequences of bottom-intensified mixing for the horizontal circulation of the abyssal ocean are explored by considering planetary geostrophic dynamics in an idealized ''bathtub geometry.'' Up- and downwelling layers develop on bottom slopes as expected, and these layers are well described by boundary layer theory. …”

Systems Analysis of Community Noise Impacts of Advanced Flight Procedures for Conventional and Hybrid Electric Aircraft
Publicado 2020“…Aircraft noise due to the airframe and engine is modeled using an aircraft source noise module as each noise component varies throughout the flight procedure and requires internal engine performance states, the flight profile, and aircraft geometry. An aircraft performance module is used to obtain engine internal performance states and aircraft flight performance given the aircraft technology level. …”
