16SrDNA Pyrosequencing of the Mediterranean Gorgonian Paramuricea clavata Reveals a Link among Alterations in Bacterial Holobiont Members, Anthropogenic Influence and Disease Outbreaks. by Luigi Vezzulli, Elisabetta Pezzati, Carla Huete-Stauffer, Carla Pruzzo, Carlo Cerrano

Published 2013-01-01
“…In contrast, bacterial symbionts exhibited remarkable stability in P. clavata collected both at euphotic and mesophotic depths in pristine locations suggesting that fluctuations in environmental parameters such as temperature have limited effect in structuring the bacterial holobiont. Interestingly the coral pathogen Vibrio coralliilyticus was not found on diseased corals collected during a deep mortality episode suggesting that neither temperature anomalies nor recognized microbial pathogens are solely sufficient to explain for the events. …”

A New Perspective of Pseudomonas—Host Interactions: Distribution and Potential Ecological Functions of the Genus Pseudomonas within the Bark Beetle Holobiont by Zaki Saati-Santamaría, Raúl Rivas, Miroslav Kolařik, Paula García-Fraile

Published 2021-02-01
“…However, many works investigating bark beetle bacterial communities and their functions usually meet in a common finding: Pseudomonas is a broadly represented genus within this holobiont and it may provide beneficial roles to its host. …”

A Tight Interaction between the Native Seagrass Cymodocea nodosa and the Exotic Halophila stipulacea in the Aegean Sea Highlights Seagrass Holobiont Variations by Chiara Conte, Eugenia T. Apostolaki, Salvatrice Vizzini, Luciana Migliore

Published 2023-01-01
“…Seagrasses harbour bacterial communities with which they constitute a functional unit called holobiont that responds as a whole to environmental changes. …”

Microbial diversity and activity in the Nematostella vectensis holobiont: insights from 16S rRNA gene sequencing, isolate genomes, and a pilot-scale survey of gene expression by Har, Jia Y., Helbig, Tim, Lim, Ju H., Fernando, Samodha C., Reitzel, Adam M., Penn, Kevin, Thompson, Janelle Renee

Published 2015
“…We hypothesize that such activities may mediate acclimation and persistence of bacteria in a N. vectensis holobiont defined by both internal and external gradients of chemicals and nutrients in a dynamic coastal habitat.…”
