Understanding radio pulsars using modern broad-band instruments
Published 2021“…In order to maximize the understanding available with broad-band observations, it is important to address the interaction between pulsar radio emission and the interstellar medium through which it propagates. I create an algorithm for correcting the effects of the interstellar medium in broad-band polarimetric data from the Parkes Ultra-Wideband receiver to reveal the intrinsic polarization behaviour of PSRs~J1056--6258 and J1359--6038. …”

Magnetic fields and UHECR propagation
Published 2023-01-01“…I review the main observational tools used to detect and measure magnetic fields in the interstellar medium of our Galaxy (considering both the Galactic disk and the Galactic halo), in the interstellar medium of external galaxies, and in the extragalactic medium. …”

Loops and spurs: The angular power spectrum of the Galactic synchrotron background
Published 2013“…While previous studies have focussed on either the variation of the emissivity on large (kpc) scales, or on fluctuations due to MHD turbulence in the interstellar medium, we unify these approaches to match the angular power spectrum. …”

Loops and spurs: the angular power spectrum of the Galactic synchrotron background

Simulating star formation and feedback on a galaxy scale
Published 2007“…Insufficient computational power and numerous poorly understood physical processes, force simulations to adopt sub-grid models of the interstellar medium. These may crucially bias results. We advocate for smaller (similar to kiloparsec) scale simulations of the interstellar medium to guide the development of sub-grid models in larger simulations. …”

Contribution of galaxies to the background hydrogen-ionizing flux
Published 1998“…We take into account the absorption of Lyman-limit photons by HI and dust in the interstellar medium of the galaxies. We find that the background Lyman-limit flux due to galaxies might dominate (or be comparable to) the contribution from quasars at almost all redshifts if the absorption by HI in the interstellar medium is neglected. …”
