Semi-analytic models and background hydrogen-ionizing flux
Published 1999“…We estimate the contribution of galaxies to the cosmic background flux at 912 Angstrom by means of an extended semi-analytic model of galaxy formation and evolution which takes into account the absorption of Lyman-limit photons by HI and dust in the interstellar medium (ISM) of the galaxies. We find that, though the background Lyman-limit flux escaping from galaxies is negligible compared to the flux from quasars at high redshifts, these two contributions become comparable at z similar or equal to 0.…”

Published 2011“…Flux monitoring of compact radio quasars has revealed dramatic radio-wave lensing events which challenge our understanding of the interstellar medium. However, the data on these events remain very sparse. …”

On the Propagation of Galactic Cosmic Rays
Published 1974“…The hydromagnetic waves formed by the streaming cosmic rays have to compete against damping processes in the interstellar medium. The dominant linear damping process is that due to collisions between the charged particles moving with the wave and the neutral particles of the interstellar medium. …”

Spin-orbit coupling effects in diatomic molecules
Published 1981“…The importance of these phenomena stems from the advent of radioastronomy and the study of the interstellar medium. Identification of the molecules, and the molecular transitions, in the interstellar dust clouds is necessary for an understanding of the cooling process by which these clouds can contract to form new stars.…”

The Evolution of Galaxies and Clusters at High Spatial Resolution with Advanced X-ray Imaging Satellite (AXIS)
Published 2024“…Stellar and black hole feedback heat and disperse surrounding cold gas clouds, launching gas flows off circumnuclear and galactic disks, producing a dynamic interstellar medium. On large scales bordering the cosmic web, feedback drives enriched gas out of galaxies and groups, seeding the intergalactic medium with heavy elements. …”

The physics of indirect estimators of Lyman Continuum escape and their application to high-redshift JWST galaxies
Published 2024“…While multiple LyC escape fraction (<em>f</em>esc) indicators have been proposed to trace favourable conditions for LyC leakage from the interstellar medium of low-redshift ‘analogue’ galaxies, it remains unclear whether these are applicable at high redshifts where LyC emission cannot be directly observed. …”

Stochastic acceleration of cosmic rays in region of relativistic jet deceleration in blazars
Published 2011-10-01“…We investigate an acceleration of relativistic particles (cosmic rays) in turbulent magnetized plasma in central regions of blazars, created by interaction of relativistic jets of FRI radio galaxies with circumnuclear and/or interstellar medium. Especially, we consider interaction of fast particles with Alfven waves in the frame of the second order Fermi mechanism of cosmic ray acceleration.…”

The GRB Afterglows Flowchart
Published 2023-02-01“…Considering several proposed models, the hydrodynamic evolution describing the external shock of the jet with the environment surrounding the GRB source or the Interstellar medium is discussed. A comparison of the results and data, considering the synchrotron emission as a basic mechanism for the radiation part, was also carried out.…”

Astrospheres and Solar-like Stellar Winds
Published 2004-07-01“…However, these stellar winds can be studied indirectly by observing the interaction regions carved out by the collisions between these winds and the interstellar medium (ISM). These interaction regions are called "astrospheres", analogous to the "heliosphere" surrounding the Sun. …”

Isotopic ratios and fractionation in the local Universe
Published 2022-01-01“…A complementary, or alternative, method is to measure isotopic ratios from observations of gas-phase interstellar medium (ISM) isotopic abundances. In this proceedings I shall review the observations of the most abundant fractionated species in nearby galaxies and recent modeling efforts aimed at investigating the physical and chemical conditions that can lead to a large spread of isotopic ratios in external local galaxies.…”

New determination of the production cross section for secondary positrons and electrons in the Galaxy
Published 2023-09-01“…To infer a precise interpretation of the production processes for $e^{±}$ in our Galaxy, it is necessary to have an accurate description of the secondary component, produced by the interaction of cosmic-ray proton and helium with the interstellar medium atoms.
