Palatal morphology predicts the paleobiology of early salamanders by Jia Jia, Guangzhao Li, Ke-Qin Gao

    Published 2022-05-01
“…Ecological preferences and life history strategies have enormous impacts on the evolution and phenotypic diversity of salamanders, but the yet established reliable ecological indicators from bony skeletons hinder investigations into the paleobiology of early salamanders. Here, we statistically demonstrate by using time-calibrated cladograms and geometric morphometric analysis on 71 specimens in 36 species, that both the shape of the palate and many non-shape covariates particularly associated with vomerine teeth are ecologically informative in early stem- and basal crown-group salamanders. …”

Improving global paleogeography since the late Paleozoic using paleobiology by W. Cao, S. Zahirovic, N. Flament, N. Flament, S. Williams, J. Golonka, R. D. Müller, R. D. Müller

    Published 2017-12-01
“…We also estimate the terrestrial areal change over time associated with transferring reconstruction, filling gaps and modifying the paleogeographic geometries based on the paleobiology test. This indicates that the variation of the underlying plate reconstruction is the main factor that contributes to the terrestrial areal change, and the effect of revising paleogeographic geometries based on paleobiology is secondary.…”

Osteology of the axial skeleton of Aucasaurus garridoi: phylogenetic and paleobiological inferences by Mattia Antonio Baiano, Rodolfo Coria, Luis M. Chiappe, Virginia Zurriaguz, Ludmila Coria

    Published 2023-11-01
“…Here we present a detailed description of the axial skeleton of this taxon, along with some paleobiological and phylogenetic inferences. The presacral elements are somewhat fragmentary, although these show features shared with other abelisaurids. …”
