Transfer optimization in complex engineering design
Published 2019“…The solution to this issue has traditionally been in the form of surrogate-assisted optimization, where approximations of the expensive functions are constructed and, subsequently, searched. However, despite the improved results afforded by this methodology, a fairly substantial amount of initial evaluations is still required in order to build sufficiently accurate representations of the problem under investigation. …”

Development and application of novel proteomics methods in proteomics research
Published 2015“…The existing challenges for accurately identifying and quantifying protein deamidation sites in proteomics include tremendous false positive identifications of deamidated peptides from database searches, substantial interference of artificial deamidation from sample preparation, difficulties in differentiating and quantifying the isomeric n-Asp and isoAsp deamidation products in proteome scale, and inability of validating quantification of deamidated peptides by either ELISA or multiple reaction monitoring. …”

Chemical and strain driven morphotropic phase boundaries in bismuth ferrite
Published 2015“…Unfortunately, mainstream piezoelectric materials all contain lead, a toxic element that is incompatible to the ever-growing demands for global environmental and ecological conservation. In the new wave of searching for lead-free replacements, BiFeO3 (BFO) rises as a promising candidate due to the existence of both chemical- and strain-driven MPBs. …”

A diminished large carnivore guild with contrasting species-habitat associations persists outside national parks in Namibia's central-eastern landscape
Published 2024“…We conducted a large-scale camera trapping survey in five systematic grids across central-eastern Namibia to identify drivers of large carnivore occupancy and to predict occurrence across a broader mixed-use landscape spanning 161,629 km2. Through targeted searches for intensive-use areas and pooling detections across camera trap stations, we reliably detected the most elusive carnivores. …”

Adaptive goal selection for agents in dynamic environments
Published 2013“…More specifically, we first develop a reorganization algorithm that can convert a goal net to its equivalent counterpart that a Q-learning algorithm can operate on; then, we define the key component of Q-learning, reward function, according to the feature of goal nets; and finally lots of experiments are conducted to show that, in dynamic environments, the agent with the learning algorithm significantly outperforms the one with the recursive searching algorithm. Therefore, our work suggests an agent model that can effectively be applied in dynamic time-sensitive domain, like computer games and the P2P systems of online movie watching.…”
