Effects of deep excavation on pile behaviour by Vindy

    Published 2011
“…Piles are often subjected to lateral loads from activities, such as excavation, tunneling, embankment, and slope failure. This report will focus on the effect of deep excavation on adjacent pile behaviour.Parametric studies using plane strain and three-dimensional finite element analyses programs, PLAXIS 2D and PLAXIS 3D Foundation are carried out to investigate the various aspects that influence the pile responses such as the effect of wall stiffness (flexible, medium and stiff walls), pile diameter (0.6 m and 1 m diameter), distance from pile to the primary wall (1 m and 5 m), and undrained shear strength of the soil which is assumed to increase linearly with depth of excavation. …”

Effects of lateral soil movements on piles by Socheat, Iv.

    Published 2010
“…Moreover, deep excavation is commonly done near the existing buildings such as construction of basement of new buildings and construction of underground MRT or tunneling. All of these constructions can cause damage to existing piles and this is because the lateral soil movements resulting from these construction activities can induce forces and moments in the piles. …”

Ansatz for the quantum phase transition in a dissipative two-qubit system by Zheng, Hang, Lü, Zhiguo, Zhao, Yang

    Published 2015
“…First, the ground-state phase diagram is analyzed in the presence of the Ohmic and sub-Ohmic bath using an analytic ground-state wave function that takes into account the competition between intrasite tunneling and intersite correlation. The quantum critical point is determined as the transition point from a nondegenerate to a degenerate ground state, and our calculated critical coupling strength αc agrees with that from the numerical renormalization-group method. …”

Continuous terahertz emission from dipolaritons by Kristinsson, Kristinn, Kyriienko, Oleksandr, Liew, Timothy Chi Hin, Shelykh, Ivan A.

    Published 2017
“…We propose a scheme of continuous tunable THz emission based on dipolaritons, mixtures of strongly interacting cavity photons and direct excitons, where the latter are coupled to indirect excitons via tunneling. We investigate the property of multistability under continuous wave (CW) pumping, and the stability of the solutions. …”
