Two for tau: automated model discovery reveals two-stage tau aggregation dynamics in Alzheimer’s disease
Published 2024“…We propose an innovative approach that uses constitutive neural networks to autonomously discover bell-shaped aggregation functions with multiple peaks from clinical positron emission tomography (PET) data of misfolded tau protein. Our method reveals previously overlooked two-stage aggregation dynamics by uncovering a twoterm ordinary differential equation that links the local accumulation rate to the tau concentration. …”

Deep learning methods to study structurally heterogeneous macromolecules in vitro and in situ
Published 2025“…However, recent advances in cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) provide avenues to determine sets of heterogeneous structures from a single dataset, and simultaneous advances in cryogenic electron tomography (cryo-ET) enable the resolution of macromolecules in their native cellular environment (i.e., in situ). …”

Global whole lithosphere isostasy : implications for surface elevations, structure, strength, and densities of the continental lithosphere
Published 2021“…We show that a crustal model for Antarctica, assuming WLI and using these density contrasts, provides a close fit to estimates of crustal thickness from surface wave tomography and gravity observations. We use a global model of WLI as a framework to assess factors controlling topography, showing that plausible regional variations in crustal and mantle densities, together with uncertainties in the crustal and conductive lithospheric thicknesses, are sufficient to account for global elevations without invoking dynamic topography greater than a few hundred meters. …”
