Size-suppressed dielectrics of Ge nanocrystals : skin-deep quantum entrapment
Published 2013“…Here we show that theoretical reproduction of the measured dielectric suppression of Ge nanocrystals asserts that the dielectric suppression originates from the shorter and stronger bonds at the skin-deep surface, the associated local densification and quantum entrapment of energy. Coordination-imperfection induced local quantum entrapment perturbs the Hamiltonian that determines the band gap and hence, the process of electron polarization consequently.…”

Entrapping of inclusions within carbon nanotubes during catalytic decomposition of C2H4 on a “thick” nickel film
Published 2014“…The inclusions retained the face-centered-cubic crystalline structure of the as-sputtered nickel film. The entrapping of nickel inclusions is explained by a continuous tip growth model. …”

Oral Carbon Monoxide Enhances Autophagy Modulation in Prostate, Pancreatic, and Lung Cancers
Published 2024“…Recognizing that smoking is associated with elevated circulating levels of carbon monoxide (CO), it is hypothesized that supplemental CO can amplify autophagy inhibition. A novel, gas‐entrapping material containing CO in a pre‐clinical model is applied and demonstrated that CO can dramatically increase the cytotoxicity of autophagy inhibitors and significantly inhibit the growth of tumors when used in combination. …”

Freezing behaviour of impact droplet on cooled super-hydrophilic mesh and silicon wafer
Published 2020“…A brief extension of the investigation is conducted on a novel pressed-mesh substrate (stainless steel mesh pressed into sheet aluminium) and it is shown that macro-scale mesh properties such as a higher open-area-ratio leads to lesser droplet spreading and more bubble entrapment on impact. This bubble entrapment leads to lower heat transfer rate and slower freezing, showing that macro-scale geometrical features can be used to influence freezing rate.…”

Release studies of naked DNA, polyplexes and lipoplexes from polymeric films
Published 2008“…This report details the study done on the stability, release and transfection efficiencies of naked DNA, polyplexes and lipoplexes from different polymeric films in which they were entrapped. The polymeric system studied includes PLGA (53/47), PCL and PEVAC .The release profile was determined by quantifying the amount of DNA released at specific time points over a period of 1 month, utilizing the fluorescence of ethidium bromide. The bioactivity of the released complexes were determined by in vitro cell transfection using COS 7 cells. …”

Arsenene nanoribbon edge-resolved strong magnetism
Published 2020“…We proposed a mechanism to induce strong magnetism of up to 10.92 emu g-1 in hexagonal-phase arsenene nanoribbon (AsNR) from the perspective of edge quantum entrapment. Consistency between bond-order-length-strength correlation (BOLS) theory and density functional theory (DFT) calculations verified that: (i) the edge bond contraction of 9.54% deepened the edge potential well of AsNR, (ii) a net charge of 0.06 e- transferred from the inner region to the edge; and (iii) the edge quantum well polarized the unpaired electron and the net spin (antiferromagnetic or ferromagnetic depending on the width) is localized at the zigzag edge. …”
