Cosmopolitan boundaries in Singapore : a study of Singaporean film
Published 2019“…In order to do so, I examine four independent, Singaporean films, Mee Pok Man and 12 Storeys, by Eric Khoo, Eating Air, by Kelvin Tong and Jasmine Ng, and Gone Shopping, by Wee Li Lin, to see how inhabitants of the city-state are entrapped, if they have recourse to escape, and ultimately, how they emulate cosmopolitanism. …”

The working class in Schrader’s Blue Collar (1978)
Published 2025“…This chapter examines Paul Schrader’s directorial debut Blue Collar (1978) with reference to its entrapment of three Detroit autoworkers. Within this rust-belt drama, two of the men are black --- the thirty year-old Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Brown (Richard Pryor) and the two-time ‘loser’ ex-convict thirty-five-year-old Sam ‘Smokey’ James (Yaphet Kotto) --- and one is white --- the thirty two year old Polish American Jerry Bartowski (Harvey Keitel). …”

Arsenene nanoribbon edge-resolved strong magnetism
Published 2020“…We proposed a mechanism to induce strong magnetism of up to 10.92 emu g-1 in hexagonal-phase arsenene nanoribbon (AsNR) from the perspective of edge quantum entrapment. Consistency between bond-order-length-strength correlation (BOLS) theory and density functional theory (DFT) calculations verified that: (i) the edge bond contraction of 9.54% deepened the edge potential well of AsNR, (ii) a net charge of 0.06 e- transferred from the inner region to the edge; and (iii) the edge quantum well polarized the unpaired electron and the net spin (antiferromagnetic or ferromagnetic depending on the width) is localized at the zigzag edge. …”

Triggered release from thermoresponsive polymersomes with superparamagnetic membranes
Published 2018“…Magnetic heating of the embedded SPIONs led to increased bilayer permeability through dehydration of the thermoresponsive PNIPAM block. The entrapped calcein could therefore be released in controlled doses solely through exposure to pulses of an alternating magnetic field. …”

The formation of a carbon nanotube–graphene oxide core–shell structure and its possible applications
Published 2012“…Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and electrical characterization suggest that SWCNTs are completely wrapped by GO nano-sheets. The spontaneous formation of such a core–shell structure is due to the strong pi–pi stacking interaction between the two materials. …”

RoughPy: streaming data is rarely smooth
Published 2024“…RoughPy is our new Python package that aims change the way we think about sequential streamed data, by viewing it through the lens of rough paths. In RoughPy, data is wrapped in a stream object which can be composed and queried to obtain signatures that can be used in analysis. …”

Curing kinetics of epoxies by thermal and alternative radiation in the application of fibre-reinforced composites
Published 2011“…Therefore, the removal of the gel time constraints could lead to improved laminate quality; for example, there is more time for precise fibre placement and orientation, complete fibre wetting and the removal of entrapped air. The aim of this project is to study the feasibility of employing radiation curing in the fabrication of glass fibre reinforced composites using epoxy based matrices. …”
