Structural characterization of vaccinia-related kinase 1 (VRK1), a histone mitotic kinase
Published 2019“…A structural comparison with the inhibitor-bound VRK1, its paralogs and other mitotic kinases enabled us to identify hotspots to design more specific ATP-competitive VRK1 inhibitor. In the second part of thesis, the molecular interaction of VRK1 with histone H3 was characterized. …”

Feature extraction from EEG signals and regularization for brain-computer interface
Published 2020“…MI-BCI establishes communication through signal generated from the human brain when a person is imagining the movement of some part of the body. The main motivation behind MI-BCI is to improve life of people with different neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebral palsy, stroke, or spinal cord injury, as well as to help them with rehabilitation. …”

Parent-infant affect synchrony during social and solo play
Published 2023“…While our sample was small and from a homogeneous population (e.g. white, highly educated parents), limiting the implications of the findings, these results demonstrate that maternal active engagement in playful interaction with her infant affords, increases, and extends infant positive affect and parent-infant positive affect synchrony, providing insights into how the social context modulates infants' affective experiences. This article is part of a discussion meeting issue 'Face2face: advancing the science of social interaction'.…”

Development of vision-based terrain recognition method for lower limb exoskeleton for outdoor environments
Published 2024“…To navigate through different terrains, the exoskeleton requires a thorough perception system to be able to classify the environment around to execute terrain specific movements. The project's key part involves enhancing an inventive method for classifying terrains which can identify seven different types of surfaces: level ground, stairs (up and down), slopes (uphill and downhill), obstacles and gap. …”

Predictors of functioning in treatment-resistant schizophrenia: the role of negative symptoms and neurocognition
Published 2024“…Methods: Participants were assessed on the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), to calculate scores for five symptom factors (Positive, Negative, Cognitive, Depressive and Hostility) and two negative symptom constructs (Diminished Expressivity (DE), and Social Anhedonia (SA) as part of the Motivation and Pleasure-related dimension), based on a previously validated model, modified in accordance with EPA guidelines on negative symptoms assessment. …”

On self-dual cyclic codes and generalized self-dual cyclic codes over finite fields
Published 2012“…We can also define constacyclic codes: the codes that are invariant under cyclic shift while multiplying the shifted part of the codewords by a constant. Combining the above two notions, we have quasi-twisted (QT) codes. …”

Three-dimensional scour at submarine pipelines
Published 2013“…These two quantities are measured and their effect on the propagation velocity is analyzed from which a semi-empirical equation is proposed. In this part of the study, the 3-dimensional flow velocity profiles adjacent to the span shoulder as well as the middle portion are first measured in order to investigate the flow structure and its effect on the development of pipeline-scour in the transverse direction. …”

Achieving reliability for wireless multicast transmission using network coding
Published 2014“…We then show that by taking advantages of opportunistic listening due to the shared medium of wireless transmission, overlapping transmission range of the interfering transmitters and physical layer network coding scheme, the results of collision codes and BENEFIT coding algorithm, can be extended to interfering multicast networks to improve the aggregate retransmission throughput performance. In the last part of our thesis we design efficient erasure codes where the coding decision is made independently of the feedback information from the receivers, thus completely eliminating the overhead of feedback transmissions from the receivers. …”
