Working for two bosses: Student interns as constrained labour in China
Published 2015“…Teachers in vocational schools follow their students into the factory and become ‘teacher-supervisors’, receiving a second salary for co-managing the utilization of student interns’ labour power. Thus, within such an unfree labour regime, student workers are subject to dual control in the workplace from managerial and teacher-supervisors.…”

Underdetermination in classic and modern tests of general relativity
Published 2024“…In this article, we question this orthodoxy, by showing there are classes of both relativistic theories (with spatiotemporal geometrical properties different from those of GR) and nonrelativistic theories (in which the lightcones of a relativistic spacetime are ‘widened’) which would also pass such tests. Thus, (a) issues of underdetermination in the context of GR loom much larger than one might have thought, and (b) given this, one has to think more carefully about what exactly such tests in fact are testing.…”

Tapping into tissue bioelectromechanics: Electroactive biopolymers for dynamic tissue engineering
Published 2024“…The success of tissue engineering constructs in restoring healthy tissue function is driven by the interplay of cells with their microenvironmental cues. Thus, the design of tissue engineering materials is typically guided by ensuring adequate mimicry and regulation of the dynamic biochemical, mechanical, and electrical interactions that occur in the cellular and extracellular milieu. …”

Board financial experience and efficiency-based earnings management in pre- and post-international financial reporting standards
Published 2024“…However, their ability turns weaker post-IFRS. Overall, this study thus not only has important theoretical significance in that a board of directors with financial experience might and might not curb earnings management but also has an important practical contribution to decision-makers in companies regarding the effectiveness of board financial experiences in the IFRS era.…”

The incidence of perfect moments: acoustic eloquence and narrative terroir in modern fiction
Published 2022“…Where such fictions frequently exhibit moments of extraordinary musicality within the medium of language, I posit that the terroir of music production finds equivalence in the semantics of the modern novel. Turning this lens towards three novels: Graham Swift’s Waterland (1983), Steven Galloway’s The Cellist of Sarajevo (2008), and Samuel Beckett’s How It Is (1964), this thesis will demonstrate that the curation of this terroir of semantic meaning imposes itself as a structural and circumstantial binding condition on the acoustics of language in the modern novel, and thus forms an essential component in the cadences of its sounds and musicality of its words.…”
