Unravelling the degradation pathways and charging mechanism in the Li-O2 battery: the role of singlet oxygen
Published 2022“…Here, it is revealed that DMA can react with superoxide depending on the salt-solvent combination and DMAO2, the reaction product of 1O2 with DMA, can degrade into by-products depending on the solvent environment. </p> <p>Finally, the stability of the electrolyte and the cathode towards 1O2 under electrochemical conditions and the real cause of faradaic efficiency loss are investigated. …”

Biophysical studies on the structure and function of Archaerhodopsin-3
Published 2019“…We study the activity of AR3 over long periods of illumination and address the role that chromophores bound to the protein, such as retinal or bacterioruberin, might have in the photocurrent and bleaching of the protein.</p> <p>Finally, we develop a mutant library of AR3 mutants with different spectral properties. …”

Social inclusion in the legal profession: a study of the solicitor apprenticeship
Published 2023“…The use of an employer-led standard appears to address the risk of a ‘restrictive’ apprenticeship experience, and to provide a framework to ensure a more expansive experience. Finally, the addition of a law degree to the apprenticeship award by education providers appears to address perceptions of apprenticeships as a ‘lesser’, or more risky route, and to promote parity of esteem between the apprenticeship and more traditional graduate recruitment.…”

Integrated user-interface acceptance model for e-learning system
Published 2014“…The third phase of the research is developing UIA prototype by using Moodle v9 and MANOVA analysis to compare the difference level of twelve attributes in User Interface Acceptance toward two groups of experiment. Finally, it was found that there are significant effects between User Acceptance and groups which were obtained from knowledge, robustness, safety, communicativeness and expectation. …”

Development of an integrated scheduling model for handling equipment in automated port container terminals
Published 2014“…In addition, results proved that the modified meta-heuristic algorithm is able to find near optimal solutions and on average, the solutions found by the GA algorithm are only 0.2% worse than the optimal solutions and in the worst case in the test cases this difference is 2.3% which is acceptable. Finally, sensitivity analysis shows that as the number of ALVs increases, the objective function decreases. …”

Environmental and social assessments of an Island Marine Park in Malaysia
Published 2018“…Network maps can help policy makers and implementing agency in planning and monitoring changes in tourism suppliers’ arrangements by providing a unique methodological frame for collecting and organizing data. Finally, the third essays aim to investigate the relationship between social capital dimensions and environmental behavior in marine parks and to examine the impact of cultural capital in mediating the relationship between social capital and environmental behavior. …”

Tac2Pose: Tactile object pose estimation from the first touch
Published 2024“…We show that even in the presence of model uncertainty, Tac2Pose is able to achieve fine accuracy comparable to when the object model is the manufacturer’s CAD (computer-aided design) model. Finally, we demonstrate the advantages of Tac2Pose compared with three baseline methods for tactile pose estimation: directly regressing the object pose with a neural network, matching an observed contact to a set of possible contacts using a standard classification neural network, and direct pixel comparison of an observed contact with a set of possible contacts. …”

The development and application of mass-spectrometry-based tools to monitor proteome remodeling in microbes
Published 2024“…Given the deep proteome coverage enabled by my methods, and my application of these methods in a wide variety of genetic backgrounds (6) and environmental conditions (5), these datasets also serve as a rich resource to identify conditions stimulating degradation of specific proteins, as well as the genetically defined pathways supporting these activities. Finally, in appendices 1 and 2, I highlight how these approaches can be applied across different microbial species to broadly characterize the proteomic consequences of nutrient and genetic perturbations. …”

Published 2024“…We also designed and tested multiplexed diagnostic assays for the detection and differentiation of three tick-borne pathogens in clinical samples. Finally, given the inadequacy of existing sample processing methods – and their importance to nucleic acid test deployment – we developed a high throughput experimental workflow to analyze the effects of chemical reagents on diagnostic assay performance and nuclease activity in patient samples using a commercially available microfluidic platform. …”

Designing for Connection with Inner Processes
Published 2024“…Prototypes include Sjuzet, a compass that anchors the latent space of a user's creative writing to a local map in order to prompt reflection as a user physically wanders through memories, and Pull It Together, a material speculation on textile swatches whose wear and tear modulates to correspond to invisible sociocultural tensions. Finally, I shift my focus to explicitly, informatively trading inner processes in my design of Metaswap, an asynchronous, written activity in which strangers compare annotations about inner processes that arise as they tell personal stories about an uncertainty they are working to resolve in their lives. …”
