Exploring barriers and enablers of self-management behaviours in patients with diabetic foot ulcers: A qualitative study from the perceptions of patients, caregivers, and healthcar... by Zhu, Xiaoli, Lee, Eng Sing, Lim, Phoebe X. H., Chen, Yee Chui, Chan, Frederick H. F., Griva, Konstadina

    Published 2023
“…Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious threat to global health and diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) remains one of the most common complications of DM1 affecting around 20 million people annually.2 DFUs are complex to treat, take months or years to heal, and the recurrence rates remain high up to 40% within 1 year of healing.3 People with DFUs are at risk of prolonged healing times and hospitalisation, reduced quality of life4, 5 and higher five-year mortality rates.3 Moreover, DFU is a causal factor for up to 85% of patients with diabetes who subsequently undergo lower extremity amputation3, 6 and is a leading cause of global disability.2 Singapore has the highest rate of diabetic lower extremity amputation (DLEA) in the world7 because of DFU and the trend is increasing.8 Additionally, DFU is a substantial clinical and economic burden to health systems in Singapore with escalating healthcare costs corresponding to more proximal amputation levels and high re-admission rates.9 Thus, understanding barriers to managing DFU is vital for improving patient care.…”

Encoding error correction in an integrated photonic chip by Zhang, Hui, Wan, Lingxiao, Paesani, Stefano, Laing, Anthony, Shi, Yuzhi, Cai, Hong, Luo, Xianshu, Lo, Guo-Qiang, Kwek, Leong Chuan, Liu, Ai Qun

    Published 2024
“…However, the encoded quantum states are sensitive to noise, which limits their capability to perform complicated quantum computations. Here, we use a five-qubit linear cluster state on a silicon photonic chip to implement a quantum error-correction code and demonstrate its capability of identifying and correcting a single-qubit error. …”

Experimental study of steel beam-column joints with novel slot-bolted connections under a central-column-removal scenario by Ma, You-Xin, Chen, Shuang, Tan, Kang Hai

    Published 2024
“…Hence, to improve the robustness of FP and TSWA connections, novel arrangements of slotted holes were proposed for FP and TSWA connections in this study to form novel slot-bolted connections (SBCs). A total of five steel beam-column joint specimens with proposed novel SBCs were tested under a central-column-removal scenario. …”

    Published 2014
“…The body kinematic measures were compared between slip-induced falls and non-fall activities (i.e. normal walking and successful recovery after slips). Five kinematic measures were identified as the appropriate fall indicators since they were able to effectively and efficiently differentiate falls from non-fall activities, especially at the early stage of loss-of-balance due to slips. …”
