Inherently vulnerable? Ethnic geography and the intensity of violence in the Bosnian civil war
Published 2015“…Existing research on ethnic conflict focuses on regional configurations of ethnicity, thus neglecting how local vulnerable pockets of minorities may become primary targets for violence. The mechanism linking minority enclaves to more violence posits that the regional majority group will fight local minorities in order to (i) create ethnically homogeneous areas and (ii) remove potential support for the other group by the local minority. …”

Strain-tuning of nematicity and superconductivity in single crystals of FeSe
Published 2021“…Close to the critical temperature, all resistivity curves at constant strain cross in a single point, indicating a universal critical exponent linked to a strain-induced phase transition. Our results indicate that the superconducting state is enhanced under compressive strain and suppressed under tensile strain, in agreement with the trends observed in FeSe thin films and overdoped pnictides, whereas the nematic phase seems to be affected in the opposite way by the uniaxial strain. …”

The acquisition of English and Mandarin by a Singaporean child in a trilingual home
Published 2009“…Results indicate that: (1)the absence of tense and number markers in the English data was due to the variety of Singapore Colloquial English the child was exposed to in his environment; (2)the use of pragmatic particles and the lack of clear developmental pattern in the English interrogatives were linked to the Singapore Colloquial English usage in the input; (3)the English-language acquisition pattern shows a similar pattern as those in other comparable studies done in Singapore; (4)the order of the grammatical morphemes in the Mandarin data follows the similar pattern as other monolingual children reported on; (5)code-switching and code-mixing were directly affected by social factors: interlocutor, norm of the speech situation and his language dominance; (6)code-switching also occurs for many reasons related to language use; and (7)the child language development has been affected by the varying amount of input. …”
