Relationship between selected biopsychosocial factors on cognitive functions among Malaysian community-dwelling older adults by Foong, Hui Foh

Published 2018
“…Predictors of poorer cognitive function were being women, being older, being divorced or separated, lower year of education, lower household income, higher fasting blood sugar, higher cholesterol ratio, higher depressive symptoms, and lower intrinsic religiosity. …”

Nuclei sorting-based genome-wide CRISPR screens to identify novel regulators of hepatic insulin signalling by Martin Perez, E

Published 2024
“…By modulating rates of hepatic glucose output and glucose uptake into skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, it is at the core of blood glucose homeostasis, ensuring normoglycaemia during fasting and feeding. The liver is one of the three major tissues that acts in sustaining appropriate blood glucose levels. …”

Investigating the functional and metabolic role of carnitine in the diabetic heart using hyperpolarized MRI by Savic, D

Published 2018
“…A neonatal model of diabetes showed decreased aerobic to anaerobic metabolism (50 %) in conjunction with functional impairment, which could be reversed with Glibenclamide treatment. A fasted streptozotocin induced rat model showed superior SNR on MRI and was pursued further. …”

A high-protein and low-glycemic formula diet improves blood pressure and other hemodynamic parameters in high-risk individuals by Röhling, Martin, Kempf, Kerstin, Banzer, Winfried, Braumann, Klaus-Michael, Führer-Sakel, Dagmar, Halle, Martin, McCarthy, H. David, Martin, Stephan, Scholze, Jürgen, Toplak, Hermann, Berg, Aloys, Predel, Hans-Georg

Published 2022
“…Changes in SBP, DBP, and PWV were significantly associated positively with changes in body weight and fat mass (all p 0.05) and resting HR correlated positively with fasting insulin (p 0.001) after 12 months. Combining a lifestyle intervention with a high-protein and low-glycemic formula diet improves hemodynamic parameters to a greater extent than lifestyle intervention alone in high-risk individuals with overweight and obesity.…”

Circadian rhythm and misalignment in the pathogenesis of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD): an experimental medicine approach by Marjot, T

Published 2023
“…

In the DECIMAL study, 12 patients with MASLD and 12 control participants underwent detailed metabolic phenotyping including a 2-step hyperinsulinaemic euglycaemic clamp with stable isotope assessments of glucose utilization during the day (07:00–13:00) and at night (19:00–01:00) under standardised fasting conditions. Identical day and night investigations were then performed in patients with MASLD after a 12-week weight loss programme. …”

Global, regional, and national burden of stroke and its risk factors, 1990–2021: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 by Feigin, VL, Abate, MD, Abate, YH, Bandyopadhyay, S, Bennett, DA, Lacey, B, Newton, CRJ

Published 2024
“…There were substantial increases in DALYs attributable to high BMI (88·2% [53·4–117·7]), high ambient temperature (72·4% [51·1 to 179·5]), high fasting plasma glucose (32·1% [26·7–38·1]), diet high in sugar-sweetened beverages (23·4% [12·7–35·7]), low physical activity (11·3% [1·8–34·9]), high systolic blood pressure (6·7% [2·5–11·6]), lead exposure (6·5% [4·5–11·2]), and diet low in omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (5·3% [0·5–10·5]). …”

Global burden and strength of evidence for 88 risk factors in 204 countries and 811 subnational locations, 1990–2021: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2... by Brauer, M, Roth, GA, Aravkin, AY, Bandyopadhyay, S, Bennett, DA, Browne, AJ, Graham, SM, Rodriguez, JAB, Runghien, T, Sartorius, B

Published 2024
“…
Findings
Among the specific risk factors analysed for this study, particulate matter air pollution was the leading contributor to the global disease burden in 2021, contributing 8·0% (95% UI 6·7–9·4) of total DALYs, followed by high systolic blood pressure (SBP; 7·8% [6·4–9·2]), smoking (5·7% [4·7–6·8]), low birthweight and short gestation (5·6% [4·8–6·3]), and high fasting plasma glucose (FPG; 5·4% [4·8–6·0]). For younger demographics (ie, those aged 0–4 years and 5–14 years), risks such as low birthweight and short gestation and unsafe water, sanitation, and handwashing (WaSH) were among the leading risk factors, while for older age groups, metabolic risks such as high SBP, high body-mass index (BMI), high FPG, and high LDL cholesterol had a greater impact. …”
