Assessing the impact of anthropogenic pollution on isoprene-derived secondary organic aerosol formation in PM2.5 collected from the Birmingham, Alabama, ground site during the 2013 Southern Oxidant and Aerosol Study by Guo, Hongyu, Rattanavaraha, Weruka, Stone, Elizabeth A., Offenberg, John H., Zhang, Zhenfa, Gold, Avram, Surratt, Jason D., Chu, Kevin, Riva, Matthieu, Lin, Ying-Hsuan, Baumann, Karsten, Shaw, Stephanie L., Budisulistiorini, Sri Hapsari, Edgerton, Eric S., King, Laura, Weber, Rodney J., Neff, Miranda E.

    Published 2017
“…In the southeastern US, substantial emissions of isoprene from deciduous trees undergo atmospheric oxidation to form secondary organic aerosol (SOA) that contributes to fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Laboratory studies have revealed that anthropogenic pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), and aerosol acidity, can enhance SOA formation from the hydroxyl radical (OH)-initiated oxidation of isoprene; however, the mechanisms by which specific pollutants enhance isoprene SOA in ambient PM2.5 remain unclear. …”

Computation fluid dynamics on drag reduction II by Zang, Bin

    Published 2011
“…In this project, a number of Reynolds-Average Navier-Stokes (RANS) models are verified with benchmark values of Direct Numerical Solutions (DNS) provided by the past research to identify appropriate RANS models which allow the simulation of dimpled flow with specific Reynolds number and initial conditions in a 3D channel. Five RANS turbulence models: Spalart-Allmaras (Vorticity-based production); Spalart-Allmaras (Strain / Vorticity-based production); k-ε Standard (Enhanced Wall Treatment); k-ε Realizable (Enhanced Wall Treatment) and k-ω Standard (Shear Flow Correction), are chosen after comparing with DNS data published by Moser et al (1999). [20] Subsequently, the single and multiple dimpled channel flows are modeled and simulated by the five RANS models chosen in the verification stage with periodic boundary condition, a Reynolds number of 20000, and a three-dimensional channel of L = 1.5 m, B = 0.454 m and H = 1 m. …”

Asymmetric synthesis of N-benzyl-5-methylhydroxy-piperidone and modular synthesis of C1-substituent tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQ) and C2-symmetric bisisoquinolines (C2-BIQ) and their catalytic application in enantioselective Henry reaction by Khong, Duc Thinh

    Published 2015
“…The two asymmetric synthetic approaches provided a significant improvement in the overall yield of N-benzyl-5-methoxy-piperidone product. While the chiral auxiliary approach offererd enantiopure product in up to 20% yield afet six step, synthetic method using lipase provided up to 45% overall yield afeter six steps, which are higher comparing to Gallagher’s enzymatic resolution approach (approximately 15% yield after five steps). …”
