“British English is much more prestigious, everybody knows that!”: reproducing and resisting hegemonic language ideologies in Chilean English teacher education
Published 2024“…Using Irvine and Gal’s (2009) framework of linguistic differentiation – iconisation, fractal recursivity and erasure – as an interpretive tool in the analysis of the interview data, I investigated the extent to which and how language ideologies regarding English operate in a group of Chilean ELT programmes. Findings from this study revealed the existence and promotion of opposing language ideologies that coexist within and across the teacher education programmes under scrutiny. …”

Transport phenomena of immiscible fluids in microchannels
Published 2021“…The biggest advantage of the proposed approach is that it removes the necessity of surface treatment for O/W droplet formation in PMDS microchannels, breaking the limits brought by the surface wettability for the first time and rendering itself to be a universal method for O/W droplet active generation with outstanding controllability. Our findings would widen the applications of the PDMS based microchips. …”

Light-matter interactions in atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides
Published 2021“…In addition, the dynamics of charged excitons (trions) is observed to be different from that of excitons that the radiative lifetime of trions is around 108.7 ps at low excitation densities. These findings elucidate the dynamics of excitonic quasiparticles and intricate many-body physics in the 2D semiconductors. …”

Anti-fouling thin film composite (TFC) polyamide reverse osmosis (RO) membranes based on piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) substrates
Published 2024“…The fouling tests clearly demonstrated that RO membranes based on both unpoled and poled PVDF-TEP-NWF substrates exhibited fouling mitigation behavior when electric signal was applied. The findings of this study would provide the method of using hydrophobic PVDF membrane as substrate for RO membrane fabrication and come up with an innovative way to mitigate RO membrane fouling.…”

The evolution and fate of waste plastics in landfills subject to physical and biochemical processes — implications for microplastics
Published 2024“…Nonetheless, a substantial volume of plastics becomes plastic waste (PW), with a significant portion finding its way to landfills. Microplastics (MPs), a recently identified group of pollutants with dimensions below 5 mm, raise apprehensions about potential toxicity and their ability to transport other contaminants like heavy metals through adsorption and dissociation mechanisms. …”

Mechanical performance and microstructural development of MgO-SiO2-H2O systems
Published 2019“…This advantageous performance of MgO-SiO2 samples was associated with the stability of hydrate phases, namely brucite (Mg(OH)2) and M-S-H, under several durability environments including carbonation, sodium chloride (NaCl), MgCl2 and MgSO4 environments. The findings of this research shed light on the enhancement of the performance of MgO-SiO2 based formulations through a detailed investigation of key parameters such as mix design, curing conditions, use of alternative materials and durability. …”

Global, regional, and national incidence and mortality burden of non-COVID-19 lower respiratory infections and aetiologies, 1990–2021: a systematic analysis from the Global Burden...
Published 2024“…For aetiology estimation, we analysed multiple causes of death, vital registration, hospital discharge, microbial laboratory, and literature data using a network analysis model to produce the proportion of LRI deaths and episodes attributable to the following pathogens: Acinetobacter baumannii, Chlamydia spp, Enterobacter spp, Escherichia coli, fungi, group B streptococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, influenza viruses, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Legionella spp, Mycoplasma spp, polymicrobial infections, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and other viruses (ie, the aggregate of all viruses studied except influenza and RSV), as well as a residual category of other bacterial pathogens.
Findings
Globally, in 2021, we estimated 344 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 325–364) incident episodes of LRI, or 4350 episodes (4120–4610) per 100 000 population, and 2·18 million deaths (1·98–2·36), or 27·7 deaths (25·1–29·9) per 100 000. 502 000 deaths (406 000–611 000) were in children younger than 5 years, among which 254 000 deaths (197 000–320 000) occurred in countries with a low Socio-demographic Index. …”

Genetic and observational associations of nuclear magnetic resonance-measured lipid-related traits and atherosclerotic cardiovascular mortality in the Mexico City Prospective Study
Published 2024“…Further MR analyses supported that only ApoB was independently and significantly related to an increased risk of ASCVD mortality in a multivariable setting and suggested ApoB, as the accurate measure of apoB particles, is causally related to the risk of ASCVD, independent of lipid contents such as TG and cholesterol, and HDL or ApoA1. MR findings did not support TG as a causal factor in the development of ASCVD.…”
