Study on mechanism and influential factors of progressive collapse resistance of base-isolated structure
Published 2022“…The results show that the non-uniformity of the beams and the concentrated loading at the nodes were easy to form a linear catenary mechanism, resulting in more severe beam end damage than mid-span damage. In the case of side isolation bearing failure, due to the lack of sufficient lateral restraint, the capacity was significantly lower than other conditions, which were more likely to cause partly collapse. …”

Combining laser frequency combs and iodine cell calibration techniques for Doppler detection of exoplanets
Published 2017“…The scientific motivation for such a system includes: a 1000 A span in the red is currently achievable with LFC systems, combining the two calibration methods increases the wavelength range by a factor of two, and moving redward decreases the 'noise' from starspots. …”

Experimental and numerical investigation on precast CECFST column-to-column connections subjected to axial and eccentric compression
Published 2023“…This form of structural members has been increasingly used as columns in high-rise buildings and as piers in long-span bridges. Recently, to promote the application of CECFST columns in countries short of labour, e.g., Singapore, North America and Europe, an advanced precast CECFST column-to-column connection with rapid construction and excellent tensile performance was developed by the authors. …”

An agent-based framework for problem solving in symbiotic simulation systems
Published 2011“…An autonomous problem solver agent which is meant to replace a human problem solver and automatically perform what-if analyses, needs to be able to solve different problems during its life span. This requires a flexible approach that does not statically hard-code information about a problem into the problem solving algorithm. …”

The Malaysian 'Islamic' state versus the Islamic state (IS) : evolving definitions of 'Terror' in an 'Islamising' nation-state
Published 2017“…Akin to a case of semantic acrobatics, we demonstrate how the Malaysian state securitised (1980-2001), normalised (2001-2013), and resecuritised (2014 onwards) the term as a result of a balancing act which not only aimed at neutralising the elements of militancy, but also to augment the state's ' Islamic ' credentials in a bid to outplay its major Islamist opponent, the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). At the end, following the emergence of a transnational insurgent/quasi-state/ terrorist/ideology hybrid, the Islamic State (IS), we argue that the Malaysian state is now embroiled in an ' Islamic state versus Islamic State' trap, where the state after appropriating and normalising the ' Islamic state' ideal, has no choice but to contend with what is fundamentally a ' terrorist' group (by the state's own definition) in religious terms. …”
