Studying the metal sites of metallo-proteins by electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry
Published 2024“…This technique was applied to study the [FeFe] hydrogenase from <em>Desulfovibrio desulfuricans</em> (<em>Dd</em>HydAB), serving as a model to explore application of this technique to oxygen-sensitive samples with intricate active sites that have the additional complication of catalysing proton reduction (H2 evolution). The findings demonstrated that ECIRM is particularly effective in elucidating the complex redox dynamics and active site changes under experimentally challenging conditions.…”

Numerical investigations of detonation reinitiation and failure modes from Mach reflection
Published 2025“…From different geometric parameters of the obstacle, we observe different detonation propagation modes after Mach reflection: detonation reinitiation characterized by the transverse detonation waves, decaying shock decoupled with flame, and inert shock with no ignition corresponding well to the experimental findings. Relying on the high resolution of the numerical simulations, we are able to obtain critical information about the detonation wave formation processes, and the corresponding detailed mechanisms are analyzed for various modes. …”

The attribution of February extremes over North America: a forecast-based storyline study
Published 2024“…In the globally averaged results, increasing CO2 concentrations lead to distinct warming signals at the surface, resulting mainly from diabatic heating. Our study finds that CO2-induced warming eventually affects the possibility of extreme events in North America, quantifying the impact of anthropogenic forcing over less than a week’s forecast simulation. …”

Local rainfall is more likely than distant thunderstorms to affect movement behaviour in Northern Kenyan elephants
Published 2024“…While some abrupt movement changes occurred ahead of local wet periods, they were only particularly frequent shortly following the onset of wet periods. These findings do not concur with reports of Namibian elephants that generally changed their movement behaviour preceding local rainfall, and the additional exploration of individual behaviours in the present study likewise did not provide compelling evidence of a generic reliance on remote thunder cues by Northern-Kenyan elephants. …”

Iranian and Saudi mutual (mis)representations: a study of the relationship between discourses of othering, political confrontation and sectarian strife
Published 2018“…Finally, by investigating three main Iranian and Saudi spheres/discourses, namely the political (speeches of the elite), religious (Friday prayer sermons) and media (newspaper editorials) discourses, this study will try to explain how <em>Othering</em> is understood and functions in the Iranian-Saudi discourse, its relationship to political rivalry and religious conflict and how they are understood as cases of political propaganda or religious polemics.</p> <p>The study findings identify a paradigm shift in analysis of the Saudi-Iranian relationship, moving away from conventional geopolitical and sectarian paradigms, which have been dominant. …”

Quantitative proteomics reveals CLR interactome in primary human cells
Published 2024“…All identified interactors have not been previously reported as members of CLR interactome. Our approach and findings uncover the hitherto unrecognized compositional complexity of the interactome of endogenously expressed CLR and contribute to fundamental understanding of the biology of this GPCR. …”

Experience and perceptions of mental ill-health in people with epilepsy in rural Ethiopia: A qualitative study
Published 2024“…Participants sought to mitigate these interconnected psychosocial impacts through finding spiritual meaning in, or acceptance of, their experiences, drawing on family care and, for some, emotional support from health professionals. …”

A comparison of lesion mapping analyses based on CT versus MR imaging in stroke
Published 2023“…<br> Overall, these results suggest that CT and MR-derived lesion-symptom mapping results do not reliably differ in accuracy. This finding is critically important as it suggests that future studies can employ CT-derived lesion masks if these scans are available within the appropriate time-window.…”

Regulation and function of innate-like T cells
Published 2021“…These include NK cells, γδT cells, tissue-resident memory T cells, cytotoxic T cells and the still poorly studied T follicular helper cells in cancer. In summary, the findings of this study expand the knowledge of the regulation and function of CD161-expressing immune subsets and their role in cancer, setting the stage for their use as a clinical biomarker or in cancer immunotherapy.…”

Characterisation of the genomes of brain metastases
Published 2015“…Although my sample size was modest the brain metastases had an increased number of copy number alterations in comparison to primary tumours. Furthermore, my findings suggest that chromothripsis may occur more frequently in brain metastases. …”

The emergence of DNAM-1 as the facilitator of NK cell-mediated killing in ovarian cancer
Published 2025“…Expression of PVR, the DNAM-1 ligand, was significantly increased on tumours and DNAM-1 mediated NK cell lysis of primary tumour tissue was observed in vitro. Discussion: These findings reveal profound modulation of the tumour tissue and systemic profile of NK cells which likely contributes to the high rates of local progression and metastasis seen with OC. …”

Community responses to a novel house design: A qualitative study of “Star Homes” in Mtwara, southeastern Tanzania
Published 2025“…Star Homes residents described how the structures triggered praise but also envy from other community members. Conclusions: The findings highlight the need for close attention to the use of novel design houses and careful sensitization around the potential benefits of dwellings to ensure that the intended health impacts of interventions are achieved.…”
