Effects of high loading rate on reinforced concrete beams
Published 2014“…To supplement the limited literature in this field, 24 RC beams were tested under four different loading rates ranging from slow (4 × 10–4 m/s) to fast (2 m/s) to cover the wide range of loading scenarios (quasi-static, earthquakes, and impact regime). Comparative analyses of RC beams under these varying loading rates highlighted several key aspects of their dynamic behavior.…”

Variational study of the two‐impurity spin–boson model with a common Ohmic bath : ground‐state phase transitions
Published 2020“…Moreover, the ground‐state phase transition is inferred to be of first order in the presence of strong antiferromagnetic spin–spin coupling, at variance with that in the ferromagnetic regime or in the absence of spin–spin coupling where the transition belongs to the Kosterlitz–Thouless universality class.…”

Electricity sector deregulation and consumer protection: assessing the imperatives of a competition: Assessing the imperatives of a competition law and competition regulatory autho...
Published 2014“…Literature abounds on the high risk of the electricity sector deregulation and the susceptibility of the deregulated electricity markets to manipulations and abuse by the electricity service providers. For better and fair market operations and the protection of consumers’ interest, the paper adopts the doctrinal research approach and assesses the imperatives of competition law and competition structures in the deregulated Nigerian electricity market. The paper found that the Nigerian experiment took off without the necessary consumer protection structures such as a competition law and competition regulatory agency leaving the electricity consumers at the mercy of the electricity service providers. The paper concludes that the country urgently needs a comprehensive competition regime to guarantee consumer benefits and to prevent substituting public monopoly with a private monopoly in the new Nigerian electricity market.…”

Published 2006“…The generative aspect of the model is used to determine an approximate segmentation.

We demonstrate the following results: (i) the BFM detector is able to represent and detect object classes principally defined by their shape, rather than their appearance; and (ii) in comparison with other published results on several object classes (airplanes, cars-rear, cows) the BFM detector is able to exceed previous performances, and to achieve this with less supervision (such as the number of training images).…”
