Global Bioenergy Availability by Katie Daehn, Coleman, Evan, Allrogen, Florian

    Published 2025
“…We dive into this apparent discrepancy, identifying multiple sources of uncertainty. Overall, our findings show that bio-energy alone is unlikely to cover the needs of decarbonizing tough-to-decarbonize transportation modes such as maritime shipping and aviation in a sustainable way.…”

Social tags as news event detectors by Chua, Alton Yeow Kuan, Razikin, Khasfariyati, Goh, Dion Hoe-Lian

    Published 2013
“…Based on the results, four main findings emerged. First, the performance of using spikes and bursts to detect news events was found to be comparable. …”

Electrodeposition of metal nanostructures for plasmonic sensing by Mueller, Aaron David

    Published 2019
“…In this thesis, a cost-effective method for top-down fabrication of metallic nanostructures with deep-subwavelength dimensions is explored, finding use in plasmonic sensing applications. Currently, few methods exist for the fabrication of such metallic structures with deep sub-optical-wavelength feature sizes. …”

Re-understanding the mechanisms of action of the anti-mycobacterial drug bedaquiline by Sarathy, Jickky Palmae, Gruber, Gerhard, Dick, Thomas

    Published 2020
“…Surprisingly, the new findings suggest that the uncoupler mechanism does not play a key role in BDQ’s anti-mycobacterial activity.…”

Preparation, motion study and application of autonomous micro and nano devices by Maric, Tijana

    Published 2020
“…Furthermore, our study was based on the stability and durability of micromotors over prolonged periods of time with a focus on the influence of ageing in “storage” conditions- the difference in performance of ‘freshly prepared’ and ‘old’ micromotors could have a significant impact on the reliability and reproducibility of the micromotors. From our findings, it was discovered that the performance and morphologies of ‘new’ and ‘old’ differ greatly over the period of study. …”

Potential of liquefied natural gas cold energy recovery on board ships by Baldasso, Enrico, Mondejar, Maria E., Mazzoni, Stefano, Romagnoli, Alessandro, Haglind, Fredrik

    Published 2021
“…The results of the study indicate that the greatest fuel savings can be attained when the vessel is powered by a low pressure fuel supply system, reaching up to 2.4%, and that the most promising solution for recovering the cold energy is its use in the organic Rankine cycle unit. The findings of this work provide the scientific basis needed for further research work and the subsequent commercialization of installations of cold energy recovery on ships.…”

Development of green nutrient delivery substrates for hydroponics culture by Tan, Hui Lin

    Published 2021
“…Pak Choy (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis) and Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) plant tests were conducted with the composite sponges to determine their effectiveness in plant growth enhancement against the commercial substrate Oasis cube (control) and to compare the effectiveness of sponges made from CMF and CNF. Our findings demonstrated the ability of the composite sponges in enhancing plant growth, and their potential as hydroponics substrate that can also function as agricultural fertiliser.…”

Event detection in spatiotemporal soccer data using neural networks by Wilbert

    Published 2021
“…However, all neural networks were unable to detect ‘Tackle’ event successfully. Nonetheless, the findings from this project still further verify that using neural networks is a highly suitable approach to perform automatic event detection in spatiotemporal soccer data. …”

A meta-analysis of the effect of virtual reality on reducing public speaking anxiety by Lim, Mei Hui

    Published 2021
“…This meta-analysis consisted of an examination of the homogeneity of the studies (the I2 indexes), publication bias (Kendall’s tau and Egger’s regression values) and an estimation of the grand effect size for all studies. The three major findings of this meta-analysis are: (1) Overall, VR had a statistically significant effect on reducing public speaking anxiety, which suggests that VR is a useful and promising therapeutic tool for the treatment of public speaking anxiety; (2) Studies that found VR to be effective in the treatment of public speaking anxiety conducted an average of approximately six VR sessions, with each session lasting around 37 minutes; and (3) VR is statistically as effective as other treatment methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy. …”

Human genetic determinants of tamoxifen metabolism by Koh, Everett Chier Wei

    Published 2021
“…In combination, rs5751245 and rs2413670 explain up to 30% of the variance observed in steady-state serum endoxifen levels. Our findings further contribute to our understanding of the genetic architecture of endoxifen metabolism, with the potential for translation into better outcomes for estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer patients.…”

Psychological predictors of short-term lower-limb orthotic device adherence : an exploratory study by Leong, Utek

    Published 2021
    “…Only body image disturbance [t(35) = -2.20 , p = .035] and the HRQoL domain of energy/fatigue [t(35) = 2.08 , p = .045] significantly changed after 30 days of wear. Our findings here emphasise the need for more concordant patient-clinician relationships to promote orthotic device adherence.…”
