Simultaneous polymerization and adhesion under hypoxia in sickle cell disease by Papageorgiou, Dimitrios P., Abidi, Sabia Z., Chang, Hung-Yu, Li, Xuejin, Kato, Gregory J., Karniadakis, George E., Suresh, Subra, Dao, Ming

    Published 2019
“…We show that (i) hypoxia significantly enhances sickle RBC adherence; (ii) HbS polymerization enhances sickle cell adherence in SRs and SMEs, but not in ISCs; (iii) SRs exhibit unique adhesion dynamics where HbS fiber projections growing outward from the cell surface create multiple sites of adhesion; and (iv) polymerization stimulates adhesion and vice versa, thereby establishing the bidirectional coupling between the two processes. These findings offer insights into possible mechanistic pathways leading to vasoocclusion crisis. …”

Reduction of superoxide radical intermediate by polydopamine for efficient hydrogen peroxide photosynthesis by Deng, Yihan, Liu, Wei, Xu, Run, Gao, Rong, Huang, Niu, Zheng, Yong, Huang, Yingping, Li, Hao, Kong, Xin Ying, Ye, Liqun

    Published 2024
“…In this work, a strategy was developed to utilize protonated groups for the rapid depletion of converted ⋅O2 -, thereby the efficiency of photocatalytic synthesis of H2O2 from CN was successfully enhanced by 47-fold. The experimental findings demonstrated that polydopamine not only improved carrier separation efficiency, and more importantly, provided the adsorption reduction active site for ⋅O2 - for efficient H2O2 production. …”

Utilization of CSR to build organizations’ corporate image in Asia : need for an integrative approach by Pang, Augustine, Lwin, May Oo, Ng, Chrystal Shu-Min, Ong, Ying-Kai, Chau, Shannon Rose Wing-Ching, Yeow, Kristle Poh-Sim

    Published 2020
“…Content analyses of 150 corporate websites of organizations in Asia headquartered in Singapore were conducted, followed by in-depth interviews with public relations (PR) practitioners to examine the motivations behind their CSR engagement. Findings showed that organizations utilized CSR as a means to enhance corporate image via four ways: Engaging in two-way conversations with stakeholders, adopting an inside-out communication approach with employees, recognizing the relevance of other CSR communication channels, and communicating CSR with authenticity. …”
