Assessing membrane performance for landfill leachate treatment in accordance with local regulatory requirements
Published 2024“…In this work, we carried out a comprehensive assessment of the quality of leachate treated by four different types of commercial polymeric membranes according to the local environmental quality regulations. Our findings revealed that although the microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were able to exhibit significantly higher water permeability compared to the reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes during leachate treatment, the properties of the treated landfill leachate in terms of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (COD), color and ammoniacal nitrogen (AN) is far below the water treated by the NF/RO membranes. …”

Frataxin deficiency promotes endothelial senescence in pulmonary hypertension
Published 2024“…These data offer a model of endothelial biology in PH, where FXN deficiency generates a senescent endothelial subpopulation, promoting vascular inflammatory and proliferative signals in other cells to drive disease. These findings also establish an endothelial etiology for PH in FRDA and left heart disease and support therapeutic development of senolytic drugs, reversing effects of Fe-S deficiency across PH subtypes.…”
