Electron transport and visible light absorption in a plasmonic photocatalyst based on strontium niobate
Published 2018“…Semiconductor compounds are widely used for photocatalytic hydrogen production applications, where photogenerated electron–hole pairs are exploited to induce catalysis. Recently, powders of a metallic oxide (Sr1−xNbO3, 0.03<x<0.20) were reported to show competitive photocatalytic efficiencies under visible light, which was attributed to interband absorption. …”

Science with a Small Two-Band UV-Photometry Mission III: Active Galactic Nuclei and Nuclear Transients
Published 2024“…We focus on the following observational concepts: (i) dedicated monitoring of selected type-I Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) in order to measure the time delay between the far-UV, the near-UV, and other wavebands (X-ray and optical), (ii) nuclear transients including (partial) tidal disruption events and repetitive nuclear transients, and (iii) the study of peculiar sources, such as changing-look AGN, hollows and gaps in accretion disks, low-luminosity AGN, and candidates for Intermediate-Mass Black Holes (IMBHs; mass range ∼ 10 2 $\sim 10^{2}$ – 10 5 M ⊙ $10^{5}\,M_{\odot }$ ) in galactic nuclei. The importance of a small UV mission for the observing program (i) is to provide intense, high-cadence monitoring of selected sources, which will be beneficial for, e.g. reverberation-mapping of accretion disks and subsequently confronting accretion-disk models with observations. …”

On a problem of Ishmukhametov
Published 2014“…Ishmukhametov provided a systematic investigation of such degrees, and proved that for a given d.c.e. degree d > 0, the class of its c.e. predecessors in which d is c.e., denoted as R[d], can consist of either just one element, or an interval of c.e. degrees. …”

Enchantment, possession and the uncanny in E.T.A. Hoffmann's ‘The Sandman’
Published 2013“…Few writers have explored the tension between these different forms of enchantment more intriguingly than the German Romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffmann (1776–1822). Der Sandmann (“The Sandman”; 1816) is one his best-known tales, partly because it gave rise to favourites of the ballet and opera repertoires – Delibes’ Coppelia (1870), and one of the self-contained acts of Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann (1881) – and partly owing to the enormous impact of the crucial section that Freud devoted to it in his essay on “The Uncanny” (1919). …”
