A signal through the noise: accurate determination of hydrogen atom positions in crystal structures and optimisation of Laue neutron diffraction methods
Published 2021“…This has allowed a variety of chemically and crystallographically interesting studies to be performed, specifically:

Determining the novel geometry around transition-metal hydride centers, where the signal due to the hydrides can be more confidently distinguished than in an X-ray diffraction experiment; using Laue neutron derived difference Fourier maps to demonstrate that proton disorder can be mistakenly assigned in X-ray derived crystallographic models; performing variable temperature Laue neutron diffraction to identify proton migratory behaviour across short-strong hydrogen bonds; reassigning the space group of a previously reported cobalt(III) coordination complex, in which the lack of inversion symmetry becomes apparent upon accurate determination of the hydrogen atom positions; using Laue neutron diffraction data to more confidently classify systems as co-crystals or salts.…”

Block pilot based channel estimation and high-accuracy signal detection for GSM-OFDM systems on high-speed railways
Published 2019“…There are two main challenges to be tackled. On the one hand, channel estimation is difficult as small number of subcarriers are activated; on the other hand, as both the dimensions of the channel matrix and the number of nonzero elements of the unknown signals are large, the matching based and the compressive sensing based signal detectors may not work effectively. …”

Flood inundation modeling under stochastic uncertainty
Published 2013“…Moreover, it was indicated that the generalized extreme value distribution was the best stochastic distribution for the channel roughness coefficient. On the other hand, the predicted water depths at the 10 river observation points, with an equal spacing along the channel longitudinal distance, satisfied the generalized extreme value distribution for Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF). …”
